As well as being 1/76 it also apparently has a wingspan of only 33mm.

I have one of these.  '72 release I think.  Moulded in that very fetching sky blue styrene.  Astonishingly small box compared to what we get these days.

It was that SM 79 that kicked my interest in Italian aircraft off. As a 14/15 or whatever year old the thought of a three engined torpedo bomber and that box art just struck a chord.

I avoided Italian stuff back in the day because I knew I could never manage one of these paint jobs.

And very good they are as well. I picked up a few more sheets at Telford.

Rather oddly even with a brush I didn't find most Italian camouflage schemes that difficult, time confusing but not that difficult. The later WWII ones start to get difficult, if not impossible to brush paint though. However the Italians were never that strict with the application of schemes so you can normally find a doable one  ;)

SEA DARTS?

Strewth, launching one of them would have been a sight worth seeing!

Were they hung under the wings or on trapezes in the bomb bay?
