The 1/72 PRXIX design would make a pretty good start for them already I'd have thought.

Easier for them to start again with a fresh sheet.  It's a good ten years old and wrong - the wing chord is too wide and the fuselage too short, somewhere between the firewall and the cockpit.  The trailing edge is at the correct place, but the increased wing chord makes the cowling look short.  It's never worried me, but if they were to do a new 14 in 72nd, I'd expect them to start all over again - witness the Vc, which from the car looks similar to the I/II/Va but is quite likely a clean sheet.

But Kit, there is more money in 1/48.  The whole design & production process costs the same as 1/72 but you can charge much more for each kit.

...but how many actually order and buy the kit?  :o

I'd be interested to know that.

Precisely my point.................
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

But people will buy smaller stuff as they're cheap and you can do more.  If I can get two, possibly three 72nd Spitfires for the cost of a 48th, I'll choose the small scale.

Apart from anything else I don't have room for 1/48 builds.  I'd build in 1/144 if my eyes were up to it, my fingers were not sausages and there was the choice of kits there is in 1/72.

The latest Airfix newsletter goes on at length about Spifire XIVs in racing and display colour schemes, and about the Javelin FAW9(R) in even more schemes, and very good they look too.

But BOTH of them are 1/48 scale, damn it!  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Come on Airfix, get back to your roots, where us 1/72 modellers are! You know you can do it!

A company called Thunderbird Models in Canada, has 1/72 decals to do that Canadian racing Spitfire. If anyone is wondering who they are, they're the ones who took over the old Whiskey Jack Decals when the owner retired.

And all sorts of other good stuff as well, including all SORTS of resin floats for seaplanes!   ;D

Good link, thanks so much Robert.

You're welcome Kit.  After reading what you said about the floats, I had another look at the website. I wonder if they have all the Khee Kha stuff too, because that website disappeared recently.

Edit: No it didn't, it just got a new website addy

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

The Wooksta!

I don't.  I'm really getting pissed off with a solidly British company pandering to the US market.  The 24th Wildcat was what really boiled me piss.  100th anniversary of the RAF and Airfix do a US Navy aircraft.  Sickening.

It increases the size of your market Lee and that's what matters. Plus in all honesty the majority of U.K. modellers are probably not that bothered about the schemes included. They either have loads of aftermarket options or are happy to wait for the inevitable re-boxings.

You could argue "what about newcomers/youngsters" ? But a) there is an RAF option included and b) sharks mouths sell.

I know we'll never agree on this, but at least we can still have a pint whenever I'm allowed back up north ?   ;)

Hope the new restrictions don't affect you to much mate

I don't go out drinking that much anyway, but yes, we can still have a pint.  Hell, my views and that of Willie are at times diametrically opposed and he's one of me closest friends.  I

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
