You know Gondor I thought they had but couldn't find any indication of their having done so.  Just googled again and up it pops - d'oh!

I use Scalemates quite a bit these days which really helps for finding out this kind of thing.

Gondor

As do I. A useful tool and thanks to Zenrat for putting me on to it

Scalemates is usefull, but one should always remember it is only as accurate as the information put into it by its users.

Couple of Vintage Classic releases I'm tempted by.

HMS Ark Royal, if only for the glorious box art  ;D Although I have fond memories of building it as a youngster.

And the Hs 123 as I like the type and the kit is reasonable from memory

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I was always tempted by the Hs123 when I was a kid, but it's only in recent years that I actually got round to buying/building one.  And yes, a nice little kit, typical of Airfix's best early 1970s efforts.

Blimey, that makes it 50 years old!  The kit is wearing well.

I recall a wonderful diorama at an early IPMS Nats that used that kit to depict the Ark's sinking. It was complete with loads of small boats milling about collecting the survivors, aircraft sliding off the deck and a frigate or two collecting the small boats. A super job.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

I have to wonder what the Hs-123 is shooting at while dropping bombs with the pilot
looking down. 🤔

My late father was on the Ark when she went down.
For years, as a schoolboy, I had visions of him jumping from the flight deck into the sea.
Imagine my disapointment when I found out, from him, that he had climbed down a rope ladder onto the deck of a destroyer (HMS Antelope ?).
My juvenile dreams were shattered.
However, I do know that in his quarters, in a suitcase, was Fifty pounds that he had saved towards marrying my Mum. It is still down there.

I built that kit as a gift for him on his 70th birthday, as a waterline model on a seascape base. I gave it to him along with a bottle of Navy Rum.
He appreciated both!

What a brill story Jim, that's amazing.

And I know what you mean about building your Dad a model, I did the same with mine on his 80th birthday. I even included a model of HIM standing in front of his Audax and a RR Armoured Car.  ;D

I had intended to do the same for my Dad. I'd obtained a model of a Miles Martinet and was going to build at one of 695 Squadrons target tugs, but sadly he passed away before I'd even started it.

When Dad was called up in1946/7 he trained as a wireless operator. After training he was sent to the M.O. to get his shots for a Far East posting. He was then posted to Weybourne, an Army Anti-Aircraft training camp in Norfolk [which I guess counts as "the far East" on maps of the UK] He wore the only Blue uniform on the camp, so was excused Parades and square bashing as the Sergeant Major said his uniform spoiled the look of things! ;D

I should have been so lucky!

When I used to go to the Naval Aviation Courses at Culdrose in the school holidays (we CCF Cadets weren't allowed on Air Training Corps camps :() I was often wearing the only Army uniform on the whole base, and with  the boots to match. So on a Sunday Church Parade when the Chief Warrant Officer called out 'HMS Seahawk, AttennnnnnnSHUN!' The whole camp did that odd shuffle that the Navy do and just one person's feet went KERRASH!

Guess who......

I knew one RSM at least who'd have arranged for your father to be issued Army kit and made to wear it.  Can't have a strange bugger standing out.

Lovely story Jim.

My dad told a story of the one and only time he was in a boarding party when they'd intercepted a small Italian freighter in the Med and were preparing to board and take her as a prize. The skipper had armed them to the teeth with a couple of pistols and Lee Enfield's plus they had cutlass, boathooks and pick axe handles so were expecting opposition. However as they jumped aboard the crew stepped onto his ship with a white flag and all carrying suitcases. Dad always remarked just how sensible they were and their officers were soon sharing drinks in the ward room  ;D

Vintage classics? Doe's that mean the Hs.123 has been re-popped? That's good news if so, will (or should) make a kit easier to find...
