The Rat

Just thought of another kit I would love to see Airfix turn out: HMS Beagle. Yeah, probably wouldn't sell, but the historical significance cannot be underestimated.

If we ever get to meet I'll bring you my specialists' reports and you can read them.  You'll also probably notice something when it comes to me putting pint glasses back down   I'm 72 by the way  ;)

Quote from: zenrat on March 19, 2024, 03:21:10 AMGood news on the Rotodyne front.  The city LHS has sent me an e-mail announcing their arrival and has them available to order on their website.  I await the delivery of the two i pre-ordered.

Glad yours is on the way mate

Thanks bud.

Received an update on the Aus Post app telling me there is a parcel being prepared by the LHS.  So that's either the 'dynes or something else i've ordered and forgotten about.
I should find out by Tuesday.

I, also, have an incoming package from (probably) the same model supplier of another, somewhat bigger, Airfix kit.

Metro?

These arrived today.

Sometimes my erstwhile employers can surprise me with our efficiency.  Sending it to my work address probably helped with that.
Now, what to do, what to do.  Box art has given me an idea for one.  Something for the 60's GB.  Now, where are those Aeroflot transfers...

Cut off the rotor heads.

Chop out bits of the fuselage of one of them and use them as plugs to extend the fuselage of the other.

Add the donor kit wings, engines and props to the receiver kit's wings.

Or don't add the extra engines/props, save them for a rainy day.

Almost the exact opposite of what I was thinking... ;)

The Wooksta!

There's a three view of the very different production version in Derek Wood's Project Cancelled.  IIRC, the fuselage has a different cross section and is longer, and it was to have had RR Tynes (or was it Darts?)

That line drawing is very similar to the USNavy's concept but the engines would have been turbofans.
Or try a roll-on-roll-off version it works so does the extension fuselage and using parts from the Boeing V-22 Osprey.
You might be a little disappointed with the quality of the plastic Airfix has used with the old mouldings.

The Liberator is expected in May. I'm seriously tempted it looks that good.

The Type Z IIRC.

I knocked this rough and ready concept drawing up last night.

Nah, any Rotodyne Whiff is a good one, so long as we can't HEAR it!

And anyway I've already done my ultimate extended 'dyne......  ;D

The Z version was to be powered by Tynes, and with 'other gas generators' aft of them to drive the rotor IIRC.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Yes, two RB176 gas generators to boost power to the tip jets, you can see the second set of exhausts in the rear of the nacelles. The intakes would have been in the wing about 3/4 back, they're not shown in Lee's drawing.

It would have seated 70 passengers (40  in the Type Y).  Later drawings had a beaver tail arrangement for the rear doors, instead of the clamshell type in the drawing.

Yep, and the FA-1 when Westland took over.
