Where you at Narses2? didn't know London had got trams back. Was in Edinburgh a couple of months ago and they're still digging all the streets up! Lots of closed shops on Princes Street.

Paul Harrison

Yup as Kit says we got a tram system back in Croydon just over 10 years ago. While they were building it I, like most other Croydonians, thought it was a huge waste of money and effort and would be a true white elephant. Once it stated running we all wondered how we'd done without it  ;D It's a very good, efficient service. Connects Wimbledon and New Addington to the train station at East Croydon and there's a couple of other towns that have asked to be linked when it's expanded (big when, but you never know). Bromley and Sutton could easily be joined to the network. Oh it helps that now I'm 60 I don't pay for travel on London Transport or National Rail within the GLC boundary. Long live Ken & Boris

Chris, why not order a 3 from Airix then you do not have to pay for postage. If you want 3 that is.

Ah, cheers Robert, I didn't realise that. I could use my club tokens as well. Just hope the Hurri I and Fw 190F come out at the same time as I want 2 Hurri's and one F.

Thanks for the info Kit! Been to Croydon about three or four times when I was little far I can remember, once to a department store that had models (possibly Allders? very disappointed coz Mum wouldn't let me have a Revell Blue Angels Hercules!) and a couple of times to a shopping centre that had a great model shop that stocked Aurora. Got my Land Of The Giants Spindrift, 2001 space shuttle and a few figures like Frankenstein and Mamoth/dinosaurs etc.

Paul Harrison

The model shop would have been in St Georges Walk, eventually absorbed by MZ when the owner concentrated on his import business. He had the Solido import licence among other things. I think it was called Modeltime, but I can't be 100% sure after all these years

St Georges Walk rings a bell Chris but I can't remember the shop name. Think it must have been around 1975 because Space 1999 had just started on tv and we went to the model shop for my birthday.

Yup it was in it's pomp then Paul. A treasure trove stacked to the ceiling. They did do a good range of sci-fi and figures. I'll always remember the 1/16th scale (I think) WWII German armoured suits etc. Very sci-fi but armed with MG 42's and Panzerfausts.

The Edinburgh tram would make a good "what if" as in, "what if the b***** thing ever gets going" or, "what if it had been properly thought out and planned!!" Complete waste of time and money by the way. 90% of the population of Edinburgh don't live along the route & there isn't even enough money to complete ONE line full length, far less the 3 originally planned!! Still, it's now officially "ahead of schedule" - meaning it's only going to be 4 & a half years late instead of five. :banghead:. Still, it will pass sort of near-ish to Wonderland!! Pity I live nearly 3 miles from where the nearest tram stop will be!!

The only other tram system I have personal experience of, and very little at that, is the Sheffield one. Was always told the problem with that was that it stopped before it got to either the student digs area and the main hospital ? If so then it's daft to say the least.

Croydon's is very, very good. To be honest London's transport system is very good and getting better.

Manchester's tram system is pretty good, IF you live near one of the routes and want to go to where they go. Unfortunately, I don't. Many people do, i.e. the routes arn't stupid, but the network has big holes in it and I'm right in the middle of one...........

Yep, looks delicious as a real-world Northolt-based 111 Sqn machine, tons of potential for Battle of France markings (with 2 and 3 blade props) and the Belgian markings offer good whif potential on, say, a P-36 (well if the French could order them....), P-40B (well, maybe), a Fokker D.XXI or an MS.406.

Nope the Dambuster kit has the Merlins the BII comes with Radials and next year we expect at least a BI/III boxing to replace their mainstream kit. Hopes are high that we may see a new Grand Slam or Tall Boy boxing complete with the relevant trolly.

I rather suspect that Airfix would do a Valiant tanker style conversion pack with the Grand Slam/Tallboy versions, offering the weapons plus trollies and accessories on a conversion sprue with appropriate decals.

Be a lot easier, because that way they'd just have four Lancs in the catalogue as you just know that the Dambuster one will come out with paints and glue at some point.
