Captain Canada

I wonder what the actual lag is between the UK release and arrival in Canada ? Maybe I'll keep track this time eh ?

The ski equipped Gladiator is a definite. Just need to find out where to get one now, what with the demise of Modelzone  :banghead: Probably wait until the Hurricane I and 190F come out and then order direct from Airfix.

It certainly is, but Airfix may not be entirely to blame (except for poor artistic judgment!) - the box art looks like a cropped and more lurid version of the English language film poster - - -

Film was on again the other day/night. In German with sub titles which is better, so recorded it

Thats the version that I watched. Superb film! I got rooting for the crew half way through the film and was pretty gutted at what happened at the end!

Always wanted to watch it. I remember all the 'adults' talking about it when we were kids. Tried to watch it but as a kid reading sub-titles.....Guess I should give it another shot now that I'm a grown up !

Try getting the Director's cut of the miniseries - the film has too much hacked out of it.

first saw the mini series in 1980/81 in german with subtitles GOT hooked

it was on at 630 at night on bbc2 and had to rush home from work to see it

I agree with the wooksta the film has too much hacked out

a good game is take yourself and a couple of mates into a very small room (6 feet by 6 feet) and watch the film in the dark

when you get to the very long sequence when they bail the boat out you will actually sweat with them OH and a bottle of navy rum passed round helps

Thirded - the mini-series is brilliant.

The production was reality-obsessed and it shows. The cast had to live on the set without going out more than neccessary and scenes were filmed in chronological sequence, so their beards, palour and increasingly dirty appearance are not make-up: they're real. The interior set was mounted on hydraulics, so when you see it tilting and rolling and the crew falling about inside, that's for real too: no camera shaking and "Star Trek Staggers". The hydraulics for the motion platform were supplied by the German competitors of my last employer and we quoted for the job too. As my employers, MTS Systems, were American and Schenck gmbh were German, they got the job.  ;D

The motion system was called a 'hexapod' and had six long stroke hydraulic jacks arranged around a circular base that must have been HUGE!The one we quoted for was about 30 feet across and Schenck stuff was always bigger than ours. I hate to think how their Service Department supported that project......

Is this the longest running example of thread drift on the Forum?  ;D ;)

Not seen the film version but recall the TV series as being really excellent (one of my top ten TV series I'd say) - and yes, rooting for the crew to survive (as was the case with Band of Brothers, to be honest).

Yes, I remember that. I was at school though, about the only time I didn't want to get into detention. My Granny's brother died as a result of a U-Boat and she never forgave the Germans...but I managed to persuade her to watch the re-runs. I think she was profoundly moved when she realised the truth of the U-Boat men....I'll leave it there.
