Actually that thread's quite funny.

Must admit I found it amusing, not sure about one or two posts though

Right the June Airfix Magazine (may be subscription copies only) I got in the post today has a 24 page Hawker Typhoon supplement included. Has an article on the aircraft itself, an article on camo and markings, details of the 4 markings options inc. in the kit (inc a natural metal one and a sharks mouth scheme) and a 10 page build article.

Cost of the kit will be £99

Ya that was pretty funny. Well, parts of it anyway. I think some people have too much time on their hands....

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

One for the serious RAF builders....can anyone direct me to a good source of info on the various colours of a/c codes used by the RAF during WWII. It seems to me that almost every model/decal company produces these codes in almost every shade of gray/sky possible. The Airfix Spit I/II codes are a very pale gray, almost off-white, whilst the Spit XII is Sky. There also seems to be a darker gray and dull red (again produced in shades very bright-Trumpeter-to the colour of Port). Can anyone recommend a decal sheet company that produces accurate colour codes. I'd like to build the new Whirlwind but the decal sheet looks hopeless and no replacements have arrived as yet.

Off the top of my head I would say that all those colours are correct. Theatre, time period, camouflage scheme, operator and availability of material all played a part in the colours used. I would recommend "Fighting Colours" by Michael J F Boyer as a good starting point for reference material although there are loads of books out there that although not specific to the subject do cover the colours used in a particular theatre or campaign/command.

Hope this helps.

On colours the "Combat Colours" books produced by SAM and edited by Neil Robinson plus "The Airfile" series of books again by Neil Robinson and others are all readily available and good introductions to the subject. Camuoflage and Markings is another series by the same group of people

Just a pat on the back for the lads and lassies at Airfix. I posted my club card with appropriate points by second class mail on Monday of this week and the kit arrived today. 3/4 days

I hear the reason I don't have a fabric-winged Hurricane in my hands is that Hornby have changed the export to Canada into a monopolistic system and the usual suppliers now have to line up to get their kits from them.

That's gotta be good for buisness and I'm sure adding a new middle-man will keep costs down !

Now this is just what I've heard, so I still have to research it but it doesn't sound good....I'd better snap up as many red boxes as I can

Capt. My understanding is that your understanding is correct.

Not a system I agree with but one a lot of manufacturers use. Keeps their costs down, dosn't help yours.

If you want one I could look at postage costs from UK for you ?

The July (these early issue dates drive me nuts  :banghead:) Airfix magazine I received today has a build of the new tool Blenheim Mk I. Looks really nice. I have plans for at least 3  ;D

That new Dak does look nice, but not for me I'm afraid...
