Saw the Lightning was out and although it's not my period I do quite like the grey one

Want one, and a Swift.

My Swift plan is finalised:
- Airfix FR5 real world OOB
- Xtrakit FR5 real world F4 (WK198 record breaker and doyen of the famous Failsworth Unimetal scrapyard I played in as a kid)
- Pegasus FR5 whiffery

Will consider an F7 if a suitable conversion arises.
What If? & Secret Project SIG member.
On the go: Beaumaris/Battle/Bronco/Barracuda/F-105(UK)/Flatning/Hellcat IV/Hunter PR11/Hurricane IIb/Ice Cream Tank/JP T4/Jumo MiG-15/M21/P1103 (early)/P1127/P1154-ish/Phantom FG1/I-153/Sea Hawk T7/Spitfire XII/Spitfire Tr18/Twin Otter/FrankenCOIN/Frankenfighter

The Wooksta!

Hannants have still got a few of the Magna F7s in stock.  I *think* they have.  If not, Magna's UK agent should have some at Telford.

Give Colin Freightdog a week or so.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

The Swift FR5 review does look promising, but why oh WHY do present day reviewers all have to go down the 'pre-shading' and 'washing' route?

The finished model looks like a die cast with WELL over-emphasised panel lines. You only have to turn over a couple of pages to see pics of the real thing and on it the panel lines are pretty much invisible.  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Second that. Spawned by the myth that an air brush is a MUST (and guarantee) for a "realistic look". IMHO, many kits with this kind of finish look like... a model kit. I would not say toy-like, but very artificial to me.
You might need some shading or emphasized panel lines for dramatic effect - but in not a few cases it just looks as if this has been applied just for the sake of it.

Probably going to do my Swift once acquired as a 112 Squadron machine based in Aden with desert camo and sharks mouth

8 Sqn flew Hunters in Aden, so that may be a better option.

Or, in order to not lose the pre-shading effect the colour coat is too thin and just ends up looking patchy.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
