The Monogram Do 17Z has a dodgy wing - the chord is way out but the fuselage shape is nice.  Supposedly, cross kitting the Revell and Frog Do 17s was the best way to get the most accurate.

At the time I built my recce Do17 there WASN'T a Revell kit.......  ;)

It'll be interesting to compare Airfix's Do17Z with the older ones, the Monogram version being darn good even by today's standards, apart from the raised panel lines. I've still got a pristine one in The Loft.

It'll also be good to compare the wing/fuselage joint. On the Monogram, FROG and Airfix Do17E/F the joints were pretty much identical. The wings are all in one piece, tip to tip, and they fit into a recess in the top of the fuselages with almost no PSR needed. I did a recce Do17 using the Monogram Z wings on an Airfix E/F fuselage and the wings fitted like a dream.

Try here Kit, the Dornier was test shot for the toy fairs at the start of the year.

Jeepers, that looks impressive, thanks.

The wing joint is nothing like the other ones, it's almost full chord. But why did they mould those little struts into the wing root on the fuselage parts though? They'll be totally invisible once you've glued the wing in place.

Are they visible with the bomb bay doors open? :-\

Coz there seems to be that option with a full bomb load.

Seems to be short on crew, though.

For the Macchis just use Mike Grant's hobby destroying smoke ring decals.  ;D

Used them a few times (a couple of builds are on site) and they are neat

Typical current Airfix.  First no stands and now no crew.  Next it'll be no building them with the undercarriage raised.

Random question, but would Airfix still have spares for a HP Halifax, looks like a mid 60's edition kit and I appear to be missing just a wing flap/aileron.

Well its due for a repop this year so it should be available if not from old stock, then at least the new batch they have scheduled

in for a penny,

dropped the lovely folks at Hornby/Airfix an email with missing part numbers. Wonder if i'll be in luck....
too old for a paper round, too young for me pensions, dammit, back to work then!

Well i can see two on the sprues i think but not the full crew quota, it might be possible to use the Revell Liftwaffe crew sets to fill in the missing members

The DO17 looks really very good. I think that'll have to go on the wish list.

It's not a type I'm particularly interested in, but that does look like a cracking kit.

So there are.  My mistake.

I've been reading the latest issue of Airfix Model World to reach these shores (July 2014).
All the build pics of the Blenheim show it with a taller turret than in the historical pics in the same issue.
Was the turret retractable and does it go up and down on the new kit?

In order: yes and no.
It appears that Airfix provide two different transparencies - to be used to depict the turret in the desired position:

Beat me to it Mr Creak.
