- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Something funny about the image of the new Defiant:

Seems to me that the guns are too high in the turret...

Does this mean that they aren't doing a new Avro Shackleton kit?
The " coming soon" New models for 2015/16 includes the 1/144 Boeing 707.
Worth looking out for.

No it doesn't mean that, we just had a preview of SOME of the new tooling's for 2015, a new Shackleton may or may not be part of the 2015 line up.
Nope the 707 is a reissue of their original kit and that's a 2014 item.

The Airfix 707 is a) ancient and b) a -420 model with Conway engines. That means it can only be built OOB as a BOAC or BA aircraft. While the Minicraft kit may have some faults it's more 'universal' in potential colour schemes.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

Off in that image, but looks fine in the pics from SMW at this link:

The turret can/did move up and down in the fuselage, much like the Blenheim or so I recall. Don't forget the rear fuselage also drops down.
too old for a paper round, too young for me pensions, dammit, back to work then!

The guns though are fixed around a pivot point for their vertical translation which is in tern fixed to the structure of the turret. Ergo the CAD image of the guns shows them too high!
Should be easy enough to fix if the resultant kit is the same as the image though.

It is, better waiting for the Airfix kit as you know that Airfix will have done decent research unlike Dragon

Oh er ....is it really that bad? I picked up one cheap when Modelzone closed (I wouldn't have bought it otherwise) Is it worth attempting, or is it really REALLY that bad?
Oh to be whiffing again :-(

In the box it looks OK, but their research was rather sloppy. It appears they scaled down the Hasegawa Sea King and forgot features like the Doghouse at the end of the engine bay over the tail boom drive shaft, the cockpit shape is off, its shorter and narrower than other Sea king kits so it looks out of place when placed next to the Revell ASW/AEW versions. Then we get onto the features, the cockpit seating is way under scale so it looks like more suitable for 5 yr olds than fully kitted out Royal Marines, the door gun is a .50 cal rather than a GMPG and they have done the door so its semi recessed into the fuselage so only looks the part when open and thus showing its kindergarten interior.

What's worse is Dragon has then carried on issuing new versions of this same kit by adding new parts but never addressing the defects, so the interiors are still too small, the doghouse has never been supplied and whats worse is they have left features of the Commando on all their Sea Kings including the Sikorsky ones - Steps, aerials, bulges etc.

That's why we are rather thankful Airfix have chosen to do a new HC4 kit and replace their rather dated Sea King kit with a new accurate tooling. The only trouble is I can see them doing the RAF HAS3 version later, but I doubt they will go back and do a proper original Sea king HAS1,2,5 or 6 in its intended role as an ASW Helicopter.
