There's already an 1/72 injection Merlin Beaufighter on the market, got one in the stash. It even comes with two styles of Merlin nacelle. My plans were to make it a Griffon powered one though --    and not using a Spitfire style cowling, something from a Firefly would be better.

The Beaufighter version I want to build is a DAF one with twin 40mm cannon. They did trial one (with a different manufacturers cannon on either side of the fuselage) and there's some nice pics in the Flypast special on the type. It would just be nice to get a good reasonably priced modern tool. Always hoped that Tamiya would have done one to accompany the Mossie but a new tool Airfix one will do

The Hasegawa one isn't too bad, got two or three of those in the stash, one comes with the 200 Gal centerline drop tank.  I'm going to drop that tank in rubber because the Welkin NF.2 was fitted with two of them on pylons under the outer wings (got some photos of it somewhere)

I have a couple of Hasegawa ones but they are a little pricey now.

Didn't know about the long range tank and the Welkin. Got the CM Welkin NF. 2 kit in the stash. Recently prepped the Mk I for work after Christmas

I'm surprised no-one else has suggested a Corsair for the clue on the 9th - take a look at the lower wing, to me it looks like there's a gull there. I'm hoping the other one is a new Beau - I built the original as a kid and I'd love a cheaper but still accurate alternative to the Tamiya one.

The advent calendar is definitely a dozen steps back/down from last year. Chocolate machine? Jumper competition?! Offering the He111 wallpaper twice?

I think the paper over the prop is triangular, implying that it's a 3-blade one, not the Corsair's 4-blader. I suspect it's the Defiant or another Hurricane sub-variant built with it's u/c down and the paper wrapped over the wing and u/c together.

one clearly has tiptanks, so its either an F-80/T-33 or a Jet Provost?

A P-80 or a Strikemaster would make sense since they have moulds for both, and the P-80 is well liked. The front fuselage of the wrapped one looks rather short and wide, so that might indicate the Strikemaster.

There's a nice article in the latest Air-Britain Aeromilitaria quarterly (Winter 2014) about Welkins and what designs led up to it.  One 3-View would most definitely be a 'Merlin' Whirlwind. But it's still Welkin size --

Do you mean Hasegawa Beau ? AFAIK Tamiya don't do one, if they do then it's missing from my life
