Speaking of which, I bet the price of the Aeroclub AEW2 conversions just went through the floor.

hmm, to which I have three or four. Still can still use the radome though --- and saves a lot of kit-bashing

Anyway if this years prophead's maybe next year it will be hot air brigades turn with some new Cold War types to appear.

Another rumour was they wouldn't do any kits of aircraft that no longer exist and wouldn't consider doing them unless they could get up close to scan, measure and photograph it, yet here we are with a brand new AW Whitley kit coming out.

I'm betting on the Scimitar and a (new) Victor to fill out the Cold War lines for 2016. They really should have balanced it out with some for each fanbase.

Earlier this year Airfix hinted heavily at a WW2 aircraft by showing pics of a large pile of blueprints. Given that the Whitley no longer exists, I suspect those plans were from the Armstrong Whitworth archives. Lots of scanning, rendering and test printing must have followed!

Shackleton. £39.99. That's a lot of money for a kit. And they bring it out just as I get the venerable Frog Shack to work on, rivets and all!  ;D :banghead:
At least I've got a year to get it done, looks like the new one might just make it to the Airfix stand at Telford 2015.

They've got a bit of a nerve charging almost £15.00 for the Comet and just slightly less for the Vanguard.

They must have amortised the cost of the moulds DECADES ago, and when a Revell 787 only costs a couple of quid more for almost three times as much plastic I reckon it's a bit much.  :banghead:

Luckily I have more than enough in The Loft to keep me going.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

The Airfix that created the moulds is long dead, so any amortization of their cost is moot, Hornby will want to recover
the costs incurred when they purchased said mould as an asset. Knowing how corporate accountants and lawyers work
the moulds would be valued based on current replacement cost, not on how much they cost when originally made.
;)

Gotta love the accountants and lawyers.  ;D

There appears to be various parts to do three versions according to this:

""The A11004 1:72 Avro Shackleton MR.2 has optional parts to enable Phase I, II or III types to be built, positionable control surfaces, a complete interior and newly sculpted crew figures. Airfix have been granted special permission by the Shackleton Preservation trust to access the original drawings and original aircraft.""

Given that Airfix will release the AEW version at some point in the future then this is a little opportune

Wow! I must be careful in what I wish for, good news on the Shackleton front.
I don't suppose a re-release of the B-29 is on the cards?

Yeah, right.....

Hornby bought Airfix for relative peanuts, so I don't accept that argument one bit. I don't care anyway, I WON'T be buying any of them.

Nope those are Phases of the MR2 not marks. It will allow the fit of the MR2 to be adjusted as they probably took on more sensor kit and possibly lost the upper turret.

well there will be at least 75% of those new releases heading for my stash.

The Shack and the Whitley are more than welcome and in my view long over due from any main stream company.

ref some of the comments about pricing. Bare one thing in mind Airfix isnt in business to please modellers, it like any other private business is there first and foremost to make money and turn a profit for its owner/share holders.
They can (and do) charge what they think will recoup their outlay on tooling, raw materials, equipment investment, packaging, staffing and building maintance ect.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.
