I shall have to browse my photos of the Shacks at Gatwick and Newark for a greater understanding. It makes sense that the guns can aim left/right or else the pilot would need a gunsight to line up perfectly on strafing runs.

If the Coventry one should fly again the kit will likely get a special boxing or promo deal for the Shackleton Preservation Group.

Its already one of the options in the Kit Nick

I've just remembered that the recent Airfix Vampire trainer includes markings for the Vampire preserved at North Weald, they must have helped with the measurements.

Spot on Nick, the preservation group website had a preview of the kit as a result a bit ahead of the actual release.

Hi Gents,

Rich Woods here from the Coventry Shackleton group.

Regards the turret it is a Boulton Paul Type N, used in MR2 and MR3 aircraft, teh AEW2 had it removed and blanking panels installed. Our aircraft has the guns mocked up while we try and retrieve a new in its box turret from South Africa. There is limited side to side movement, but I believe its only about 5 degrees at best - I have a manual for it somewhere and will attempt to get a relevant picture posted.

Kind regards,

Rich

As promised, Shackleton turret diagram.

I got the details wrong about azimuth and elevation - they are 20 deg either side and 5 deg up and 30 deg down.

Regards,

Rich

Cheers Rich, always handy to have someone who knows for these sort of questions.

I suppose the next is will you be getting one of those test shots shown on the Airfix website Shack dev page ?

Ah, an authoritative source at last, thanks Richw.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards

Glad to be here chaps.

If I can help with anything Shackleton related I will. And of course; when the Airfix example hits the shelves I can help with reference material!

Kind regards,

Rich

Is it different from the GR.1 ?

yes. it has an extra sprue with aerials and weapons specific to the AV-8A and AV-8S.

When's the Beaufighter due?  Want the torpedo and the release gear for other projects, especially the Brigand TF1 that's been on and (mostly off!) since 2000!

There's a build in the current Airfix Magazine (May) therefore going on past experience I'd say out in May - hopefully
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
