Airfix have just tweeted a pic of a reel of film and a stack of (slide?) boxes they've received from the Smithsonian in support of a "2016 project", with a promise of more news to follow tomorrow.

Those are boxes of microfilm reels, which anyone can purchase BTW. Current costs are $20USD per reel 16mm, $30USD per reel 35mm.
The Captured German and Japanese Documents collection consisits of over 5,000 reels.  ;D

My brother bought copies of some of the captured Japanese docs reels about thirty years ago.

So basically, it could be almost anything.

Ya I looked on the Airfix site no clue, and searched through most of the Smithsonian collection and it really could be anything !

Oooh they are finally replacing one of their tired old kits - the B-17G Flying Fortress, and coupling that with a new USAAF Bomber supply set  !!!

(Well its US so I don't know why we automatically assumed it would be an Axis type from their archives  :banghead:)

I think both of those are likely to go down very well with WW2 modellers

NARSES2

Well both Airfix and Hannants have sold out on the Whitley  :banghead:

Never mind I can wait, I've enough on already.

However I have pre-ordered the Kate, Wildcat and Stuka to be safe  ;D
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Captain Canada

Excellent ! I love looking at those CAD drawings.....so thought provoking. The USAF bomber supply set is going to be a nice addition as well. But that HC.4 CAD at the bottom ? Oh yeah....can't wait !

The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

What assumption? I merely used the specific Captured docs collection as an example of what the Smithsonian
holds.

Here's the USAF Engineering Docs page:

That collection has over 16,000 rolls BTW.

Captain Canada

That's a gorgeous scheme....love the yellow. I'd like to build one like that myself !

That statement wasn't targeted at you Jon, it was the reaction by many on other forums & facebook that it would be Axis i was referring to. In fact it was your post with the link that made me wonder if it might be a US type instead

PR19_Kit

Excellent!

The original 'Bit O' Lace' B-17G kit was the first 'big' Airfix kit I ever built, but goodness knows how long that was ago!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit
