Don't worry about it there's not a lot extra to what's already known going off the Yearbook, the Workbench Blog is really their main new model outlet. I expect due to the disclaimer in the yearbook that some items may make an appearance in future Workbench Blogs for 2016 release rather than 2017, I also have a feeling they may offer a members only special boxing as they try to boost that again after letting lag yet again.

Not sure where to put this request (Any Mod feel free to move....) but a friend of mine at work has come up with the idea of some kits for his boys stocking fillers for Xmas (6yr n 9yr old....)......i suggested some Airfix starter kits........he liked the idea. So my question is......is there a way of knowing which boxings have the new tools in.....? I have an old and a new Me109E in boxings.....so can anyone shed light on box numbers/box art for the new toolings please......?

That's a very good question, many folks have been caught out by this. I've read that kits with an A on the end - as well as the start! - are old ones, but I'm not 100% sure.

Righto......so the Hurricane KW-Z with the smoking Bf109E in the background has an A at the start so it will be an old moulding.....?
But the Harrier GR1 starter kit with an A at the beginning is surely the new mould.....?  Confused......
Looking into it a bit more.....some kits inrecognise as being new (Gnat, Defiant, vampire...) start A55.......but so do some hurricanes, spits and 109's but there are obviously new moulds for them.....but confusingly so does the Tornado F3 starter kit......

A55 is the code for a starter kit irrespective of the age of the moulds used for the aircraft within.

Most of the New tool kits are listed as such although some of the other one are also new tools but have been out for a few years now. It's a case of knowing which aircraft kits have been fairly recent new tools or not.

The listing for Airfix 2016 is up, nothing new that's not already been listed in the Yearbook bar the re-pop of the Aston Martin DB5.

We will likely see some unannounced additions in the coming 12 months that may be aimed at 2016 rather than 2017 but I don't expect anything till the Trade shows next Jan/Feb although they may surprise us at Christmas.

As I've said before they do have the feel of going to less of an Annual Catalogue and more a flowing continuous release cycle making full use of Workbench Blog and possibly key events.

Still there are a quite a few of the new kits I will be getting, the Victor is pre-ordered already, and will get the Martlet, the JP and the Sea Kings of course.

I believe that all the aircraft starter sets that are currently available are new tools.  That doesn't include gift sets, and all of the armour and ship sets are old tools (they haven't got around to updating those yet).  Cars can usually be spotted simply that modern subjects are new tools, vintage subjects old tools.

There are some older sets floating around in shops and one way to tell is to look for the traditional art work, but again it isn't a fool proof method as some of the older kits had their artwork updated to the digital style.

Might I suggest the Hobbyboss easy assembly range?  If you're not sanding and filling, they go together great as an introduction and there's a wide range of subjects.  Mostly WWII with a few early jets.

Might I suggest the Hobbyboss easy assembly range?  If you're not sanding and filling, they go together great as an introduction and there's a wide range of subjects.  Mostly WWII with a few early jets.

That is a great idea......the reason it was Airfix is that is what my mate made when he was a young'un......

i really wish they would rerelease the 1/144 VC-10 Tanker and L1011 Tristar (with new tanker parts).
and again, no newtool 1/72 Gloster Javelin

Roden's bringing out a new VC-10, and IIRC a new L-1011 has been announced (I'd have to check how's doing it) too.

Mossie's idea re the Hobbyboss kits is a good one. I'm not sure the new tool Airfix stuff is ideal for a 6-9 year old as a first kit or two. Once in to it then they'd be fine, but Hobbyboss would be a great intro and they'd be flying it around after a very short time

A Tri-Star tanker would need MAJOR re-tooling as the original kit was a -200 and the RAF's tankers are all -500s with a shorter fuselage etc. Airfix aren't into airliners much these days, sadly, so I doubt they'd see any money in doing that.
