I remember the original 262 very well.

Interesting they used the one at Hendon to measure up. Last time I saw that it had a two inch gap at each wing root ! Get your filler ready now lads

Be interesting to see what the options are for it and if they allow for any farther use of the moulds - two seater, cannon nose, recce nose ?

Definitely one for the stash.

But the 3D prototype of it was at Telford last year Jim...............
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

I thought it was going to be released as a B1.

A 262?  Bit underwhelming that.  It's not like no-one does one in 1/72.

Yes, but the Hasegawa, Revell and Academy kits don't make Airfix any money.  And all of them have issues.

The money is the point as I doubt Airfix care about other people's issues.  It's more likely they were passing with their LIDAR gear and measured the 262 as they were there.

I'd like a new 1/72 Mosquito and single seat Vampire.

Lets face it, when did anybody not make money selling Evilglamourwaffe stuff? A 262 is one of those things like Spitfires and F-16s that bankrolls the more adventurous releases.

Plus it replaces one of their old tooling's so its been in their range for 50 yrs or so

Exactly and as Lee says the others have issues. I spoke to Colin at Farnborough yesterday about this and mentioned some possible small conversion parts that could be done for it . He also told me one of the Czech boys were looking at it and were well down the path as well. Were going to use metal tools. Can't remember if he said AZ or RS ?

The Wooksta!

AZ announced a while back that they'll be doing 262s.  Probably the more esoteric variants and they don't have the Airfix reach.  Then again, your average Airfix buyer isn't likely to be building AZ kits.

The Victor was last year's big reveal. Based on a photo of a support jack they posted during last week, speculation abounds that the big 1/72 model this time will be a new Sunderland.

When they were talking about a Big Announcement and showed part of a 262 line drawing I thought it'd be 1/48 or 1/24. Underwhelming for me (any 262 will be) but I know it'll be a nice kit that will sell well, and I'm optimistic for some 2017 kits that I want.

That said...the 1/48 P-40B was originally announced for 01/09/2016 and has been pushed back twice, their site says 26/09/2016. Fingers crossed I get it before Christmas!

Sunderland sounds like a strange choice. Isn't the Italeri one good ? Just wondering how big the market will be for it

But as Lee pointed out, the Italeri one doesn't make Airfix any money.
I suppose it would be done from drawings or is there one left somewhere to scan?
