Speaking of the V-Bombers anybody noticed the going rate for Valiant's these days on eBay ?, now getting rare, just as the interesting B2 conversion set is available,

Don't take ebay as any real benchmark.  Second hand traders were flogging them for between £30 and £40 over the weekend - I paid £35 having missed one for £30 by about 15 seconds!

Unfortunately, not all of us are in the UK, Wooksta, so we have to take EvilBay as our standard.  Something you might like to consider from your Northern Fastness, from beyond the Wall...

Winter is coming. Haven't seen any White Walkers round here yet though!

They will come, they will come, just as the Winter will come!

Never mind white walkers, I'm just anxious for people keenly waiting for the Victor!

A LOT of plastic for your money.

Some Hasegawa 1/72 scale kits cost more than that too!

The Airfix calendar that came with my subscription issue of AMW has a picture of an AEW2 Shackleton.
I am assuming because they will be releasing one next year.  Is this news or is it something I should have already known?
Would it differ much from the Revell kit?

There is also a Bf 110C.  An aircraft not in the current line up.  Expect a repop of the 2010 tooling.

Apart from the Calendar no official news confirmation on the Shackleton AEW2, the test shots actually showed the MR2 kit with a Radome so the boxing is not unexpected, and most likely the MR with an extra sprue and a couple of new decal options. The Revell kit has the Radome integrated onto the fwd bomb bay doors and the Revell kit has managed to retain rivets where as the Airfix kit is smooth with recessed panel lines. Wooksta can probably give a better comparison having tried building both, from Britmodeller there appears to be two camps split between those liking the Airfix kit and those preferring the Revell kit.

Other Airfix news:-

The 1/72nd HP Victor is now estimated for delivery to them on the 15th December having slipped a month from the 17th November and past its scheduled October release date. These are being manufactured in the UK now so I guess they are still tweaking the moulds or awaiting the decals sheets, boxes or instructions any of which can delay its release.

So it looks like it will be a Christmas present to ourselves, but it will be delivered in the 9 days before Xmas along with 100 million other parcels and will come out of our December funds rather than November so bare that in mind if you have one on pre-order and planning your Christmas shopping  :-\

The Victor could very easily draw me back into real-world modelling, now there's an accurate (although requiring some tweaking) TU-22 Blinder available as well. Here's to hoping a new generation Vulcan emerges soon.

KiwiZac

Amen - I built the original Airfix Vulcan a decade+ ago and it was tough then.

A lot of chat at Britmodeller and ATF about the AEW2 and Bf110C based on their appearances in the calendar. Hoping for some slightly more exciting (read = NEW TOOL) announcements in the Advent Calendar/upcoming Workbench blogs.

I never actually finished the Revell one...  Hmmm.  They're much of a muchness really, and curate's eggs both.  Revell's got nicer surface detail but hamstrung by aiming for an MR3 out of the same tooling.  Interior detail is poor or non existent but fit is good and I like the rivets. Shatipusses were rivetty aircraft and the model should reflect that.  Revell is also hamstrung by the fact that it's one variant in the box - an AEW aircraft and you only have two choices of marking schemes but twelve aircraft to choose from.

Airfix.  Fit depends largely on the kit itself and how well it was moulded.  That Airfix plastic is... not the best.  It warps, it's soft and you have to trim every part to get it to fit.  The Airfix kit has better detail, certainly internally where you never see it, and more options in the box to give you a decent basis for any MR2 airframe, be it early or late.  Fit...  Different people have different stories.  Some found it a dream (mine wasn't bad, but then I have memories of building unidentifiable Russian bagged Frog clones), others found it an absolute bag of cack.

Prices have dropped dramatically for both, examples now costing about £25 which is excellent value for money.  My advice is pick the kit for what you want to do.  AEW? Revell but Airfix for anything else.  The Alleycat MD1/T4 is geared to go with the Airfix kit.

Well the Victor is in stock now, although it maybe the residue from the initial delivery not already pre-ordered, I had notification that my pre-order is being processed and looking on the site the kits is showing as in stock, so should hopefully get it sometime next week
