I agree that a new Vulcan in 1/72 would be nice, however a 1/72 Buccaneer would be better and with careful planning a lot more milage could be got out of one set of moulds.
The S.1, S.2A, S.2B, S.2C, S.2D and S.50 being the versions with lots of squadron options as well as the bomb bay fuel tank, buddy tanker and Laser designator for the Gulf War.

I doubt this is the first Airfix toom underway. But here's a few progress shots on my first Airfix FG-1..






There are a few fit issues in places, mainly due to very tight tolerances in the fit, and my cack handedness. Brute force seemed to cure most of em 
But despite that, im enjoying nailing this beast togeather so far.

Sums up a Brit Phantom pretty well.  Not top of my must buy list, but I'll keep an eye on this and I might just be tempted to pick one up.

Looks a pretty complex structure, as expected from 2018 Airfix I guess.

I may try my LHS on Tuesday to see if they have any, but they'll probably be sold out, the IPMS Glos crew will have strip mined the place I'm sure.

I've read nothing but good news about the Phantom so far, it looks like a corker. I'm waiting for an FGR.2 boxing with proper camo!

I'm a bit behind martin's build as I had to finish the Sea Puma first so didn't really get started on the Phantom build till Sunday.

Yes the construction is interesting to say the least, but follow the instructions, test fit and work slowly and it comes together OK. It's another made in India so back to the soft grey plastic, which possibly helps construction and it has a bit more give to get into position once glued and cures quickly. Detail is really nice, yes they missed the grills above and below the intakes due to the way they decided to mould the thing and whilst they give you optional wing panels for normal or strengthened the  morons did all three versions of the outer wing tips with the strengthening detail moulded on. So a file and sanding session is required to correct those if doing any of the FAA aircraft.

It has the dummy sparrows used for ballast, the three row SNEB RN rockets and RN 540lb bombs rather than the usual 1000lbs, so plenty of armament choices to play with and to use on other FAA builds. the options for Cat Launch, fully folded as well as parked and inflight, gives some interesting spares which may be utilised on other Phantoms with a bit of surgery.

Well they announce the 2018 range today in a couple of hours, but I somehow doubt they will top the Phantom FG1 of last year from my personal view point, no doubt some will be very chuffed with whatever they announce and others will be disappointed (they always are !).

Just remember back at the start of this century they hadn't done any new 72nd aircraft since the 90's, their announcements were odd scaled footballers, and they were being slowly strangled by lack of investment, over production and shoddy QC from Heller who ran their moulds to destruction and did woefully bad decal printing.
We have seen Airfix go belly up as it tried to discard that monkey called Heller off its back and be reborn and brought under the Hornby fold, unfortunately its resurgence has come at a time when Hornby's other lines have stagnated somewhat which has seriously effected cash flow and resulted in a somewhat drastic consolidation of the product range and a reduction in development staff thus a more conservative new product range for the next few years.

Therefore don't set expectations too high as they have limited resources and a broad range of scales and eras to accommodate and appreciate what they do announce as some of us remember when there was sod all or garbage and fact its very nearly went the way of Frog, Matchbox, or Esci.

One thing to note when comparing their output to the likes of Eastern Europe and the Far East, its quite noticeable on the new Airfix Phantom that the product is approved and manufactured and under license to Boeing. This comes at a cost premium that the likes of Airfix, Revell and Italeri have to adhere too, where as none western producers blatantly ignore this making their kits cheaper to develop and produce although they could technically by classed as illegal and unlicensed.

by the looks of things, they are releasing a number of new variants of recent new toolings, including the FGR2 variant of theyre new Phantom FG.1, a 2-seater variant of theyre new tool Me262 and a new 1/72 Seaking HAR.3/Mk.43.

AND, there is a WHIF in the mix, as the new Gnat T.1 boxing comes with decals for the "Hot Shots" version with "The Navy" marings

Those 1/72 soldiers must have repaid the investment in their moulds about a million times over by now.

There's nothing there for me.  A rebox of the Spitfire mk Ia?  May get one or two for the decals but that's it.  Victor K2?  Still don't have the standard Victor so I doubt I'll be rushing out for one of them.  I don't do 48th.  And there is more likelihood of Sunderland AFC winning the Premiership, the FA Cup and the Champions League than me even looking at a Phantom.

Nice to see a 2 seat 262 - and with Czech markings! - but at the thick end of 20 notes, they can had away and bollards.  More to the point, will they get the differences between the B-1a/U1 and the CS-92?  The latter is a trainer, so the rear cockpit is different.  If so, it does mean the possibility of a Luftwaffe trainer boxing at some point.

Airfix do building sets, the Coastal Command and Coastal Fortress have been reissued.
Any chance of reissuing the 1/76 Sheriff of Nottingham Castle?
As I have found an old Airfix magazine with an interesting article which uses two of these kits and the prices of secondhand kits on eBay are too pricey for me.
