Looking at the "new" stuff has me wondering about the B-26 ? How old is it ? Have they tweaked it or is it someone else's tool ? Interesting.

Those 1/72 soldiers must have repaid the investment in their moulds about a million times over by now.
The US Marines are the very ones that used to skirmish across my model railway fighting the Africa Korps.

Yup I started wargamming when the only ones available were the Guards sets - on parade and band. That's when I learned about Plasticine and banana oil  Looking at the British infantry NW Europe boxing, I don't remember the original's having a P.I.A.T. gunner ? Did they do a latter boxing or have they got someone elses ? Matchbox ?

That's the new set of 72nd British Infantry they did that came out about the time of the Bedford and the Cromwell.

I seem to recall the 1/72 Para's having a PIAT gunner, though, wa-a-ay back when.

It's old tooling, 1973 according to Scalemates, but it's pretty good nonetheless. It looks like they've reverted to the original decal scheme for 'Flak Bait' and added one for 'Big Hairy Bird' with the monster sharkmouth.

At least they've got themselves off the hook with me by not including the SAAF 21 Sqd. scheme at last, which they pinched from my drawings in PAM magazine in the 80s, without so much as a 'thank you'.  :banghead:

I don't remember the Africa Korps having a surrendering officer.  My set certainly didn't.  He would have been gunned down by his own troops for sure.
The US Marines set is all the same though.  I loved that it had the rubber dinghy.  Very usefull for crossing the blue parts of the lounge room carpet when the battle was fought in there.

posted on the Airfix Facebook page:

the 2018 line up will be revieled on Teusday, January 9th, at 10.00GMT.

Was less than impressed with that post and said as much in their comments page as considering they played the Christmas period for all it was worth to build up anticipation of their next years catalogue, once the released it at SMW, other times Christmas Eve or New Years Eve or New Years Day.

However I suspect the delay probably ties in with the fact that are probably closed down for Christmas for two weeks and that with their financial situation there's not going to be a great deal of new items to be really excited about. The SMW reveal was no doubt pulled to give them something new to announce for the new Catalogue as opposed to the alternative boxing's and reissued kits we are likely to get. I don't think there will be too much to cheer about although some will no doubt be very happy with whatever gets announced.
Unfortunately whilst they have done a lot of data gathering for new kits, the financial situation means they are unable make the investments they would like into developing new tooling's and we'll have to make do with what's more cost effective and occasionally flawed.

Expect to see a string RAF bias with some WW1 types, probably:-
Wellington B1 - Already announced
B-25 Mitchell C/D - Already Announced
1/48 Blenheim I - Already Announced
Phantom FGR2 - FG1 kit with new/different sprue
Victor Tanker
B-25 Mitchell - bound to be RAF boxing of revised variant
Wellington II - CGI image accidently showed Merlin variant
Me262 two seater - parts breakdown show alternative options
P-51 mustang - bound to be another boxing
Possible export Sea Fury
something new RAF in 48th (its where their best people are - thus the Phantom ending up a bit of lemon as done by nugget whose now been kicked into touch
possible new Sopwith Camel probably in 72nd - shown in Airfix Mag calendar and will go with other WW1 releases.

Wasn't far off was i :-D, only the Wellington II not a 2018 release buts that's probably 2019  ;)

Not a bad selection, nothing for me to get too excited about although there are some i will certainly pick up i 72nd, The Aden 67 Dakota was a nice touch for Cold War/East of Suez nice to see the Shar 2 again and the Marauder re-issue was a surprise as it proves some older tools do have some life left in them.
Not unexpected to see a re-box of the RAF Sea king after its Gift Set only release, but still hoping for Airfix to do an original Royal Navy ASW version justice.
Worryingly still no sign of scale downs from 48th to 72nd from their post war stuff  :banghead:

2019 could be interesting as not a lot of 2nd boxing's left due to the limited new tools this year, possibly a 3rd Sea King, maybe another B-25 Mitchell variant, not doubt Hunter and Blenheim variants in 48th.

One thing to remember is that they will hopefully announce new tools for early 2019 through their workbench again

This list gets a big ol meh from me, since I only do 1:72. And the lack of a metal winged Hurricane 1 remains the great mystery.
All hail 1:72!

Ah cheers Geoff, wasn't aware of that.

Only glancing at this, I misread it as  "came out about the time of Bedford and Cromwell"  suggesting that they'd been on the go since 1640something!!

Come to think of it, an English Civil War set would be interesting, if somewhat unexpected.

If Airfix bring out a 1/72nd scale Phantom, I very well could be persuaded to buy something of theirs. Unless someone other than Matchbox has a 1960's or70's era one out.

I doubt this is the first Airfix toom underway. But here's a few progress shots on my first Airfix FG-1..

There are a few fit issues in places, mainly due to very tight tolerances in the fit, and my cack handedness. Brute force seemed to cure most of em
