Huh - I suppose that means the 1/24th Martin-Baker MB.5 gets pushed back again.... ;)

Yes, the 1/24 B-36 will be done before that, and then there's the 1/72 89th Anniversary re-issue R101 kit to come as well.

That's why the great majority of people at Telford last year were convinced the 'Big Reveal' would be a new 1/72 scale Vulcan. :(

Well it does need a revamp,  so does the  BAe Nimrod not forgetting the  C-130 kit as well.

They already 're-vamped' the C-130 by selling the Italeri kit in their own boxes.

There's NO chance of the Nimrod being revamped I reckon, it's not on very many people's fave aeroplanes list, even the Airfix Mag itself says that you see very few of them on the show circuit these days.

Relayivly speaking the Nimrod kit is not that old compaired to a lot of the other kits that Airfix have been replaceing.

Well they only made 20,000 and then shut-down the line so I suspect many people are stashing theirs 'for the future'.  BiN price on eBay UK is about £60.

That was all sort of a horrible error by Airfix and the Trade, following on from the messy and ultimately fatal split from Heller, they had issues of warehouses filled with large expensive kits because the French just churned them out and pair little attention to sales and demand mistakenly taking initial sales figure peak as average demand and they were more interested in keeping the factory running than targeted production and sales. This is why you got the warehouse clearances in the noughties with 24th scale kits going for a third or less.

When Airfix launched their TSR2 kit in 72nd this was an unknown risk for them so they decided on a pre-sale only of 10,000 half hoping to reach the 10000 kits limit to break even. They however missed the Manga aspect first time round and pre-sales topped 15000. Following on from this they decided to do the Nimrod which was another popular wish list item so again Airfix set a single production but this time based on total presales. This time the retailers dropped a clanger, modellers did want it but generally 1 or 2 at most as its a much larger kit and 3 times the price of the TSR2, but the retailers ordered in the same numbers as the TSR2 with some extra. Thus Airfix produced 23000 to order and all retailers were suddenly swamped with more Nimrods than they could actually sell. So instead of a production of around 10-15000 over 3-4 year run which would have been the standard run we got 23000 in one big lump in February this missing out on the potential Christmas sales yet again. The Massive run also caused them problems as the decals producers simply couldn't meet the demand to deliver the full lot in one run which is why the decals are regarded as being a bit crap as whilst designed well they just couldn't be produced to the quality expected at the numbers required.

We will probably see a Nimrod re-popped in the future, once interest rises again, possibly under the classic kit boxing.

As for the C-130K Hercules it has been requested, but it probably won't meet the production criteria at the moment, its a large model, Italeri already have a Kit and unfortunately its being phased out of RAF use with the C-17 and the A-400 showing the flag these days for RAF support flights (especially as the remaining C-130Js are more orientated to Special Forces use. Given Hornby's overall position I would suspect that time and money would be directed to more 48th Fighter/bomber sized kits and 72nd jets & ww2 types.

We learnt from the documentary that they got the Hellcat out as it was a shelved project that had almost been completed as a quick and cheap fix!.

I wonder how Hellcat sales are going?

Anyone here bought one or know anyone who has?

I hope they've got their US distribution sorted out, 'cos I suspect that's where most of these will sell.

I won't be buying one, not because I've got anything against this particular kit, but because I don't see myself dropping £120 on any 1/24th scale kit ever.

I've met Dave Kennedy, the US rep for Hornby.  Nice guy.

I won't be getting on either because I really don't build many aircraft in other than 1/72nd.

I was really hoping for a new Vulcan myself but am happy to see the Buccaneer and MiG-17.
