Those Astronaut figures were one of the few figure sets I never owned. I think there were a couple of others, but I can't remember if they did a farmyard based set ? I can recall the Western sets but didn't have those either.

There's a few there I couldn't remember and a couple more I didn't have then I originally thought. Mind you I still had nearly all of them.

Meanwhile the latest issue of the Workbench has the first pictures of the Mig 17 test shots, some lovely shots of the Spitfire FR XIV and details on the Buccaneer's wingfold.

There's also a picture of the a XF-91 Thunderceptor in RAF markings with over wing mounted Firestreaks

I'm getting flashbacks to 1980 looking at that.  Not because it could have benn around then but I can imagine the horrible sticky "thing" that would have resulted if a 12 year old me had been given that starter set.
The tube glue, the too thick yellow paint which wouldn't have covered evenly, the tube glue, the ifingerprints on the canopy and in the paint and the saggy rotor blades because I used too much glue and poked them before they were properly dry.
Oh the horror, the horror...

It's the yellow paint in the little pot which set those thoughts off.  Odd.

The second World War had seriously affected Great Britain's abilities to proceed with airliner development, and it was realised that the USA would have virtual domination in this field unless steps were taken to catch up. The Brabazon Committee was formed in 1943 to look into Britain's post war aviation prospects, and a series of recommendations was issued in 1944; one of these was to produce an advanced turbojet powered airliner for BOAC.

The De Havilland company pursued design concepts which led to the D.H. 106 Comet in 1946, and in a very short period of time the first prototype flew of 27 July 1949. The Comet 1 first entered BOAC service in May 1952, becoming the world's first jet passenger aircraft. With the improved Comet 2, orders from airlines around the world rapidly increased until the tragic losses of two BOAC Comet 1 in January and April 1954; the cause of these losses remained a mystery until exhaustive testing revealed hitherto unknown problems connected with metal fatigue, and thereafter all Comets were subjected to extensive redesign and rebuilding.

The Comet 3 re-emerged as the Comet 4, which BOAC ordered in quantity in 1957. From 1958, British European Airways orders rose to 14 of the modified Comet 4B, which featured a lengthened fuselage giving high-density seating for up to 86 passengers, and a reduction of the wing span and deletion of the leading edge fuel. That Victor with the Blue Steel is a seriously impressive kit, going to have fun building the one I've got. I think I may buy another because I want to build one with the max load-out of 1000lb bombs that was envisioned for it.

There lots of info on the 7-bomb clip that was used, but I'm trying to figure out the mounting system of the 10-bomb clip that I've read a reference to. It said it was the first successful arrangement.

All I can think is it was like this     OOO

Apparently they worked out you could put five 10-bomb clips in the bomb bay, and two 5-bomb clips in each under wing panniers.

It seems the info I got on this is incorrect, there's no way a 10-bomb clip will go in a Victor. However, over on SPF, a video has been posted of a 10-bomb clip being loaded into a Vulcan ----  the arrangement of the bombs in the clip is how I show above
