The Wooksta!

The Mosquito getting the attention is understandable, given it's the first two stage one we've had since the 70s.  There a few good Tempest kits available and due out too. My money is definitely going into the Mosquito - the more research I do, the more I find I want to build....

Perhaps, but they're more likely to be real rather than whiffs...

So no Dart Mosquito then, Lee?

No, that would be silly.

BTW, the research is showing errors everywhere. eg There's what is supposedly a B.25 on the Xtradecal FB.VI sheet, but one look at the serial told me it was a different mark and then I find a photo showing it with a bill nose rather than the alleged bomber one. Checked the serial and it's an NF.XIX. Which should have tropical filters too.

And the Richard Frank's Mosquito Data file is about as trustworthy as Matt Hancock. Riddled with errors.

I like the Academy kit (I've built enough  ;D) but it does have some "errors" so be nice to have a modern tooling.

The KP ones are on Hannant's Future Release page, with box top illustrations, and I'll probably get one to see what it's like. I've heard rumours of SH producing one, but we'll see. At the moment the Airfix one will be the one for the majority of planed builds.

I do have both volumes now.  Where to start?

He's under the misapprehension that Canadian production B.XXVs had two stage Merlins.  Other than a one off FB prototype, NO canadian built aircraft had two stage Merlins, although several were converted once they arrived in the UK to carry the 4,000lb bomb and thus got two stage Merlins for CoG reasons.

The B.IVs converted to carry 4,000LB are stated to have paddle props, plain hub wheels and retain their normal elevators.  No, they got the larger elevators with enlarged horn balances.  Photographic evidence proves this, along with the spoked wheels, early prop and wingtip.  There's other claims about B.IVs which photographs prove to be utter balderdash.

It's also stated that the PR32 with the longer span wings got the larger elevators with enlarged horn balances, when photographic evidence shows them to be the same as other Mosquitos.

No photographs of F.IIs converted for PR duties.  Absolute bollocks, because there's plenty of photos of DD744 (before and after conversion), I've found one of DD743 and there's one of DD796 before it was transferred to 681 Sqn for PR work.

That's four so far and that's just with a cursory scan.

PR19_Kit

Only if we're talking about Mosquitoes, or maybe Spitfires............... ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

If it's a reference work, then it should be accurate.

I was asked a question, I answered it.

Agree!!   If a work of reference isn't accurate, how then can we fully appreciate a sophisticated and subtle whiff?

Agreed, but we also have to take into consideration when the book was written. If it was accurate at the time, according to all the then available information then we should issue a warning to the effect that certain aspects of it have been overtaken by newly discovered information. That's my take on it anyway.

I can't speak for these books as a) I haven't got them and b) I am no expert on the subject. Perhaps it's easier with general history books as you're nearly always dealing with different interpretations rather then freshly discovered "facts".
