If the Double Wasp engines are to be replaced with T56s (I dunno, for commonality with the larger C-130?), would you have kept the J85 turbojets?  Or would the turbojets still further any improvement brought by the turboprops?

Just wondering if the Provider can be tweaked to a level comparable to the G.222......

With two Tynes I reckon it would blow a G222 into next week!  :o

.....then the Tyne C-134 would need its J85s replaced with missile pylons to blow that Fiat into next week

So how about a couple of TF-33-Ps hung under the wings? Lots of ground clearance there..... ;)

The XC-123A with its B-47 engine pods was actually the first US built jet transport to fly.

The C-123K variant with the under wing J85 pods was created in the late '60s (1966-69) by the conversion
of standard C-123Bs and are the only version so equipped. A reengining with T56s would probably
be a late 50s notion.

Cool!  it might need separate lift engines as well though - just as the Do-31 did.

I couldn't resist and opened up the A-Model 1/144 C-123B. It would be difficult to finds any two parts that'll fit. There's a wing insert for the underside of the wing. It sits way too high in the slot provided, so there's a big step. I see much sanding in the future. The two fuselage halves don't fit at the tail and the fuselage construction is such that it needs the interior and cockpit parts for structural support. The flash on the parts is thick, even by A-Model standards. Looks like 80% of the time spent on this kit will be PSR and 20% glue the bits together and paint kit.

Oh well. If I think of it as a vacuform kit with thick parts, it'll be more fun.

The Combat kit is the Airmodel kit.

Nice one. And the new nose radar adds to the whif factor

I'm probably the only person who thinks that the radar made the nose look bloated......  ;D

Just saw this bit. Can't fully agree with Frank 2056's comments about the build, I found it not too bad. A little bit of care, some filler, and the end result was not too bad.
Deffinitely not a shake the box, and out pops a perfect scale replica, but then I started modelling with original Frog and Airfix kits, so I supose anything is an improvement.
Certainly do not dismiss the Amodel kits.

That's good to know. The wing panel fit on my kit is really poor, and so is the fuselage fit, but that's all I've tried fitting so far. I'm hoping that the canopy will at least fit without too much work.

Apparently it doesn't need the J-85s with T-56s.
