From my eldest daughter, who works in the model and toy dept. of an Oxford department store  ;), I 'cashed in' her Father's Day token for an Airfix PR19 (A SPITFIRE, not a Meteor!) and a Sabre.

Thinks: How about combining the two and making a Sabrefire?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

Funny you should say that! My first attempt at a whif was the Airfix PR.XIX with various bombs, missiles and important of all, a J47 turbojet drafted on. But that only used minor components of the sabre :) I'm sure you could do a better job than me.  ;)

My continuiing efforts to get my hands on the 'Operation Sun Run' RF-101s that I've already paid for, and are actually in the UK right now, have taken another step, but I'm not sure if it's forward or backward!

After phoning the number for the UK Border Agency mentioned on the PO paperwork and being rebuffed as they don't have enough operators to answer me, I was directed to the HM Customs web site, and from there I sent an email detailing my protest against their exhorbitant VAT rate. Today I got an email back from them saying I should contact the UK Border Agency as such things are their bailiwick (I think this is where I came in......) and it seems the UKBA phone no. is AWAYS busy and you have to write them a letter!

I wonder if a) they know this is 2011 and b) if this just and official scam so that people trying to legitimately import stuff give up in the face of such blatent officialdom and pay their outrageous fees just to their hands on their own goods?

Such a letter will be on its way tomorrow but I'll be on their office door step on Friday as I'll just happen to be in the area that day!

However I would not put money on it.

Just tell them that you are also writing to the PM and the Newspapers.

My airfix club set arrived today! Hooray, the kits (new tool Mig-15/F-86) are stellar! Well done airfix.

McColm

Alders down in Croydon have reduced some of it's plastic model kits and it looks like some of the older kits are in their bargin bucket.
I picked up an Airfix 1/72 F-27 Fokker Friendship for £6.

So how long are the wings on the SPITFIRE PR19 going to be??

That would be telling of course, not the least reason being because I haven't figured that out yet.  ;D

Dragon Do-335-B4"Recon", long span version. Probably be Swedish in PRU blue, with decals from the Airfix Spitfire PR-IXX. I cannot make my mind up whether to do it with the blacked out crown markings for the Soviet overflights, or the full colour markings.
