The 'Operation Sun Run' RF-101s that I bought from Hobby Search have arrived in the UK. My total price paid to HS was £32.43. Today I got the letter from the GPO about Customs charges etc.

The PO want to levy a 'handling charge' of £13.50 and the Customs want to add £10.93 as VAT!!!!!! My maths says that a £10.93 charge on a cost of £32.43 is almost 31%, not the 20% VAT that we have at the moment,

Kit

Not sure if you pay VAT on the PO charge, but that brings the total VAT much nearer the 20%, plus you might have had duty added to the price - although after 5 years retired I've no idea what duty rates are or what they are leveyed on now. The thing that gets me is the PO charge, absolutely ridiculous  :banghead:
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I asked that exact question and was told that VAT isn't added to the 'Rip-Off' charge, it's imposed before that gets applied. There was no duty either, that's listed separately as £0.00, so HMCE need a new calculator. After another rude phone call to the PO this morning they agreed to hold the parcel until my dispute with HMCE is resolved.

When I used to travel back and forth to the US, I brought back LOADS of stuff in my bags, declared them at the airport complete with receipts etc, and only very rarely got charged duty and VAT. Even then it never exceeded around £10, and that was on goods valued at over £100 at times.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

The Wooksta!

Three pots of Xtracrylic - RLM 04 Gelb, RAF Extra Dark Sea Grey and PRU Blue.  I am so sick of spryaing the latter colour, having done about 10 Spitfires in it in recent days. At least another three to go too, plus more for undersurfaces...

Caved in and picked up one a Revell (Heller) Arado 196A-3 this afternoon. I'll probably nick the floats for something else, so I might turn it into a dive bomber...
