Still bad weather in my area so no pics of the finished Testor's Komet...so I went ahead and started a new kit a few days ago.
Below is the cockpit of the 1/48 scale Tamiya Nakajima Type 11 Night Fighter, so far this has been a great fitting kit and has some nice detail on the cockpit parts so I took my time and enjoyed painting and weathering this area.

More work done on the Nakajima Type 11, the cockpit is 99% done and is enclosed in the fuselage, the wing is also built. Everything so far has been a near perfect fit!

Always found these Japanese twins to be very elegant - looking forward to this

Thank you NARSES2,
Now that I have seen just how big this aircraft was I am amazed at the notion the Japanese had that this could have been used as a long range escort fighter, if the Bf 110 was a flop as a long range fighter this aircraft would have been nothing short of a disaster. :o
But it IS a very nice looking machine.

After taking a short break from this model and building and finishing a different Tamiya kit (pics to be posted soon) I have returned to the Nakajima Type 11, here you can see I added the last of the cockpit bits just before the canopy was glued on.

The base coat of Nakajima green has been sprayed on the airframe, also the engine cowls are painted blue/black...the engine cowls look too light in color right now but they will be getting a very thin coat of black sprayed on the sides and bottom, the end effect of doing this will give the appearence of the paint looking faded slightly on the top.

More in-progress pics...I started with the paint fading of the uppersurfaces by spraying various shades of green over the base coat of Nakajima green. The wing roots were given a dense mottle of light tan to represent more wear and tear on the paintwork, this area will also get some paint chipping and scuff marks.

Also work has been going on weathering the wheels and propellers...this is being done mostly with the airbrush.

I love watching this all come together

Oh, this is shaping up to be a real beauty.

Thanks NARSES2 and Lancer!

More painting was done today, much of the paint fading was sprayed over with the base coat of green...looks better now and the faded paint effect can just be seen but is not overdone. After the decals and flat clear coat are on I will go over the uppersurfaces with a thin patchy looking coat of tinted thinner so the decals will look as faded as the paint does, it does NO good to go for a faded paint weathering look to the model if the markings are not weathered too. ;)

Thanks Dan!

I just finished with some airbrush work adding some weathering on the engine cowls and back of the propeller blades...no pics of them yet but might have some later.
Next up for this model I will mask off and paint the yellow ID markings on the leading edge of the wings.

More painting and the start of some paint chipping...

The yellow ID markings have been masked and sprayed on and the chipping on the wing roots has started.

This is turning out to very educational and enjoyable.

Thanks for the comments Go4fun!

Another couple pics, here is the model after nearly all the paint chipping process is done, only a VERY light amount of paint chipping will be added after the flat clear coat is on.

Next will be painting and weathering the exhaust shrouds and adding the exhaust stains. Much of the paint chipping you see aft of the engine nacelles will be slightly covered up by the exhaust stains.
