Well this one was inspired summer last year by the purchase of the Revell/Matchbox Hawker Fury, whose No1 Sqn markings I thought would look good on a Hurricane..... However whilst waiting for the pre-war roundels I'd decided I needed for that "finishing touch" someone went and beat me to it!! :banghead:
So the project went into the Holding pattern while I had a think...
Come this Christmas one of my presents was a Revell/Matchbox Gloster Gladiator; The 3Sqn markings, a recently rediscovered sheet of bare metal foil and the decal sheet "Wings of Silver" Pt.1 (from Model Alliance) set the project in motion again.
(belief suspension time required from here) :blink:
The dark clouds of war that were gathering over Europe in the late 1930's started drifting off and looking more like the nice fluffy white ones that sometimes hang around on summers days, and Nobody needed to fly to Munich, not least for a worthless piece of paper...
Life was looking much brighter, especially for No3 Sqn RAF who had just exchanged their Gloster Gladiators for brand new Hawker Hurricane MK2B's. Which they were soon preparing for the Empire Air day to be held at RAF Hendon later on that year.

For the Rivet counters among you the serial actually belongs to a Blenheim,
and that's because I didn't have the right shaped two! and I wasn't going to wait
till I ordered some pre-war serial Numbers  :rolleyes:
The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

That interwar silver scheme with big squadron markings fits the Hurricane to a tee!

The 1 Sqn Hurri was me - sorry! ;D

Very nice indeed - I like the polished metal cowling as opposed to the one-colour finish I used. Good stuff. :thumbsup:

One thing I've never figured out about bare-metal foil - how do you make it adhere to the subject and how do you make sure there are no wrinkles?   Is it self-adhesive or do you use a glue of some kind?

Bare metal foil has a kind of adhesive already on it when you peel it off the backing sheet (its not very strong but does the job)
This was actually the first time I've tried it, it was a bit fiddly but I am pleased with the result.
As for wrinkles: it wont do really bumpy bits but you kind of smooth/press them out with your finger nails or a blunt cocktail stick and the wrinkles will disappear.
