Really? If they're pantographed from the Airfix job they shouldn't be all that bad. At least, the fuselage and wings should be pretty good, I suppose teeny bits like props and such would be less satisfactory. But never having seen one I can't say for sure.

I have one that a another modeler sent me in a purchase of a box with scrap/incomplete models and parts. It is started, with fuselage detached painted white, but it is indeed a reduced copy of the airfix kit, in all details. In fact, it is a "finer" model than the larger "father" :-)

I will take some photos and post them.

Best regards,

Wasn't there a legal reason for the photos of the model as box art for a while? I'm sure I read that somewhere. Trades descriptions or something, i.e. the box had to show what was inside.
Then why do baby food bottles show Babies on the label!  :o
Seriously tho I have seen built models on car boxes where one tire is showing air under it. Not only is it sitting still (it IS a model!) but it looks impossible due to things called Physics and Gravity.

This looks like a UH-1 'Huey' that got stretched lenghtwise and extra doors added.

Here's a howler from Kangam, posted by Finsrin on BTS (nice one )

1. Apparently, from the detail, this is the Missouri with the New Jersey's pennant number painted on (badly).

2. She's in 1980s-onwards fit, with Tomahawks, Harpoons, Phalanx guns and a Seahawk helo, but somehow she's escorting a WWII standard Essex class carrier with what look like F6F Hellcats on deck.....

3. Arn't those 16" gun barrels a little short too?

Howitzers more like!  ;)

I was thinking along the lines of the big, breech-loaded mortars of WW1 but with longer barrels. ('Coz every naval gun has a longer barrel, right? :P )

I'll take my chances Kit.....

Here's the positively svelte single-pilot version:

Then, because the single-pilot job obviously wasn't fat and ugly enough, they produced a side-by-side two-pilot trainer version:

Never was the phrase "that'll teach 'em" more aptly applied.....

Well it's still not coming soon to a model shop near you, but the model world never ceases to amaze me. I saw a model of a Blackburn Blackburn at Crewe and assumed it was a scratchbuild, but it looks like no, it may actually have been a kit:

I'm (almost) inclined to buy that, not because I want to build it but just to remove it from public view in the name of common decency....

Wonder how many they sold?  ;)

A true triumph of function over form!  Nearly as ugly as those French inter-war planes.

The MPC boxing of the Airfix Lynx had the box art photo stretched to match their standard size box, but they didn't do anything about the height! Result was a long thin Lynx.........
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model
