The Hawk Swift box art doesn't look too bad, really.  Particularly in comparison to some of the others we've seen.

Just to take the thread further off topic - sorry moderators - But no Chris it isn't an old wives tale or urban myth. there was a 50/50 scheme and here it is:

Agree Mossie it gives me a little nostalgic glow
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

It's considerably better than the model INSIDE the box too!  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

How true. The most you can say is that it's an excellent fit, however one of the two I have on the go right now busted that premise, all the others I've had are lovely to put together. Oh please Airfix, give us a good injection molded Swift, in various marks.

On that note, would anyone like the box from a Hawk Swift?  I found one at a vendor's table at the 2009 Nats.  I was all set to buy the kit from the vendor for an amazingly low $5, when I discovered the box was empty.  The gentleman gave it to me outright, threw it in with the kits I did buy.  Now it's just taking up space in the stash.

Not me!  Although I don't think it's bad at all, not fantstic, but not bad
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

The old Hawk kit is still the most accurate Swift in shape straight from the box

My nomination may at first seem slightly strange, but it's the Airfix 1/24th Harrier GR3

Looks like a nice painting, until you look at it and think 'Where did that Sidewinder come from?' - methinks the pilot should be pulling the black and yellow handle!!

Mayhaps it that rarely used centreline AAM rail..   Interesting that the 'winder has'nt got a launch rail for the outer pylon...

The GR.3's were fitted for & carried Sidewinder in the Falklands.  Maybe a slight misnomer with the 4 Sqn special markings, but it could be a test firing.  IIRC they were fitted with the AIM-9G, the boxart shows an AIM-9L & like Mav says, doesn't explain the missing launch rail.  I don't know if they were fitted for AIM-9L's after the war.

Scroll about half way down on this page on Military Photo's, there's a B&W photo of a GR.3 with AIM-9G's.  Lots of other pics of Ascension Island on a war footing too, including a Vulcan with a camouflaged Shrike.

Interesting.  Thats the first time I've seen pictures of the clandestine aid that the US gave to the UK during the Malvinas/Falklands war.  C-5s and C-141s at Wideawake.

I think they were re-wired for 9Ls later, but it's the complete absence of launch rails that struck me - and the fact that a Sidewinder in that position must have come from another aircraft!

What's equally interesting about those shots is that they are carrying the big 330 gallon tanks, and the 100 gallon ones on the outer pylons on some (A ferry fit, the outer pylons weren't plumbed for fuel)

I wonder if it was originally penned with a Matra pod, or possibly clean?  Marketing guys decided they wanted a change & the pylon was missed?
