That's the special high-speed version.  They were able to make 50 knots, going by the size of the bow wave!  :o

It's moving so fast the ship is compressed in space due to relativistic effects.

A great whiffing kit. I picked up one in a local supermarket for $6.
In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

What I'd like to know is if the model looks like that.  It could be useful if one wanted to model the SR-71 version of the X-men's X-Jet.

Nice one Ysi - I'd forgotten about that, even though I've got one!

I'll have a look what shape it actually is later. I do know that it's pretty small: about 1/170th IIRC.

Had a look at the SR-71 now, and it's not as bad a shape as the crappy (CG?) artwork suggests. Still pretty rough though. Might make a good missile or a scaleorama'd homebuilt.... ;D

I'll have to disagree on this: the X-Men's Blackbird is a lot slender than this. The box art looks like it's made of Lego...

He made the gray a neutral light gray when it supposed to be light blue gray with hints of purple and the dark navy blue one step away from black!  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I had several of the MPC kits with figures.  Still have most of the figs in the parts box.  Most of the other MPC kits I had came with 3 profiles on the box top and the decals to match in the kit.  Ah, good times.

My question is - why do the figures (a) appear to be so badly posed and (b) why do they look like they belong on a USN carrier?

I thought that was rather obviously the artwork's mistake, as were the markings.
