As some of you may know, I have a gallery on deviantART, where you can find most of the same aircraft I've uploaded here in my own gallery. But there are many other whiffers there, as evidenced by this quick selection of designs/illustrations I have found particularly noteworthy (larger versions of most of these images when you click on them in their original pages):

LEGO PROCYON (drakolae)
http://drakolae.deviantart.com/art/Lego-Procyon-VT-II-189457213
Glad to see that I'm not mad doing Lego at my age, there are others like me!!

THE ENGINE THING (naiyion)
http://naiyion.deviantart.com/art/the-engine-thing-97245706
Looks like a twin-fuselage D-21 Tagboard of sorts...

TW-141 CLOUDS (terranscope)
http://terranscope.deviantart.com/art/TW-141-clouds-79727532
The creator of this beautiful design has several other images of it in his gallery.

ASTROCEPTOR (nailgungfx)
http://nailgungfx.deviantart.com/art/astroceptor-v0-5-75167401

PORBEAGLE MODEL KIT (kryptid)
http://kryptid.deviantart.com/art/Porbeagle-Model-Kit-121662847
Now this is taking whifiness one step further... the imaginary box of an imaginary model for an imaginary aircraft!!!

FUTURISTIC RUSSIAN AIRCRAFT (kryptid)
http://kryptid.deviantart.com/art/Futuristic-Russian-Aircraft-110202584
Cool drawings. Same guy who did the fake model kit box above.

VULCANAIR EC-30 TRIJET POSTER (denodon)
http://denodon.deviantart.com/art/Vulcanair-EC-30-Trijet-Poster-143211398
Interesting and believable collage.

AIRCRAFT (blueprint1981)
http://blueprint1981.deviantart.com/art/Aircraft-55649559

SOME AIRCRAFT (venom800tt)
http://venom800tt.deviantart.com/art/Some-Aircraft-62870413
Amazing stuff through and through!!!

MY NAVAL FIGHTER AIRCRAFT (venom800tt)
http://venom800tt.deviantart.com/art/My-Naval-fighter-aircraft-115661344
I like the way you can recognize immediately the real-life aircraft that inspired these. Same artist as above.

ANGELS 22 AIRCRAFT MONTAGE (prinzeugn)
http://prinzeugn.deviantart.com/art/Angels-22-Aircraft-Montage-55118932
I like the mixture of imaginary variants of real aircraft and totally imaginary designs.

OB AIRCRAFT XXL (mg78)
http://mg78.deviantart.com/art/OB-aircraft-XXL-1163828
A bit too sci-fi for me but very nicely done so it deserves my tip of the hat.

SHARK ATTACK (angrydogdesigns)
http://angrydogdesigns.deviantart.com/art/Airbone-Shark-Attack-150231431
Okay, not really a whif, but it was so funny I had to include it here!

Of course there are many, many more whifs on deviantART. If you find some that you like, please share them over here! I know I will do so myself from time to time...

Great find Stephane.  The Russian designs are particularly nice.

Thanks for sharing.

really nice stuff Stephane, thanks for the links !

That last one IS a whiff -- it's "what if Jeremy Clarkson got to do what he wanted ".
                    (but James May objected !)
you may as well all give up -- the truth is much stranger than fiction.

I'm not sick ... just a little unwell.

Really wish there were pics with a higher resolution of the Skytrain II, Mi-48 Hector, CV-24 Heron and the Be-330. So cool designs!
Cheers,
Moritz

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

Thanks to you all for the feedback and contributions! It's great to see that topic taking off, and I hope it will continue to be enriched and to inspire!

Here's a series of profiles done by Arthur Rosteck, a.k.a. mimikios on deviantART. Not a newcomer by any means Arthur once was a model box artist, "a Long time ago in a Galaxy far, far away" as he puts it himself. He worked for MPC and did some box art and concept drawings from about 1972 until 1976, and apparently did some MPC/Airfix boxes too. He did some Lionel stuff too, most of which was for the TCA Conventions. He also did some drawings for AMT... but they never made the kits.

Arthur did a lot of drafting for model kits as well, and also built up models for photography and model shows. When Squadron Shop was located in Madison Heights, Michigan, he even had some of his models on display in their store. Finally, he did some line drawings for Don Greer, when Squadron started their series of "In Action" books.

On deviantART, Arthur has begun a series of "what if" aircraft profiles, which are reproduced here in low quality format — for the much larger hi-res versions, go and visit his gallery. I gather he's not yet fully conversant with digital software but he's willing to learn. Considering this, I find the following to be pretty good (to the point I'm willing to forgive his Northrop being spelled "NorthrUp"! LOL). Enjoy!

BAE-Northrup Grumman F-16

Northrup-Grumman AF-8M

Northrup - BAE F-8M

Northrup - Grumman F-8Z-1

Do you REALLY want an answer to that ???
