Apart from it being a twin I can't really see the point of this plane.
It's either cause it's got two underpowered engines and is finding a way to make use of em or it's some form of attack plane but it's to small to be able to carry a decent amount of weapons..and I can't or don't see any guns either .
Yeah I'm not really seeing the point if this ..seems even to small for 2 engines ..if it was bigger then it would make a little more sense and if it did carry guns then possibly a interceptor.
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .

It does remind me of a Harvard - this could be a Basic trainer, I'm thinking - turning Mr. Hostilities-Only Draftee and turning him into a pilot.  This one might be a Basic Multi-Engine Trainer, for them that washed out of Fighter School, with an eye to bombers or transports.

Yep I spotted em at last Ricky mate 👍
They look like .30cal machine guns which looking at the markings I'd say it's like the late 30s ..which would make sense for that sort of weaponry.

The spec in JCF's link calls for '4 x cannon' and the designer says they're 20 mm ones in the same link.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

20mm ?? There ??? No chance ..in those days 20mm cannon was not small and we're not talking German weapons engineering here and those barrels are just to small for 20mm cannons and also the lack of space to fit em .
That's why I mentioned 30cal as I was even hesitant about 50cal ...remember back in the late 39s the US didn't have a large choice of 20mm cannon to choose from...I think the US had 2 maybe 3 different 20mm cannon to play with .if he'd made the barrels much thicker then yeah why not but those are just too thin .

Remember My good Sir and strangely I remembered this Rolling Stones lyrics..you can't always get what you want 😁😁.
As a man of the engineering world you know how much fun it can be when some dude comes in with the plan and then the poor sod who's gotta build it 😉 😀
It won't fit..it's too big..or couldn't get them in time due to shortages or you just can't have em cause the Navy want em all for their ships ..in the wiffy world of ours anything is possible

Why am I picturing a conversation between Kirk, Spock and Scotty?

That would be fun to watch! Have Bones hanging around to provide witty come backs to Spock.
