I had the thought the other night that a much shortened Do335 fuselage sans fins on a Sea Vixen type wing and booms would make a good prop version.

Cool, thanks Caveman. I had a second look at the Ar 561 after you posted that engine diagram and it looks like the gunner is on top of or even between the engines, at least he'd be warm. I had it explained to me years ago that extension shafts and 90° drives loose a lot of power and are never as efficient but I like the idea.

True, but  if you think about it it was standard practice for RWD cars - extension from the back of the gearbox via the propshaft and then 90 degree change of direction at the diff.  No major technical challenges except for handling the power.

Just exactly how old do they want me to be before I'm counted as 'mature' for goodness sake? I'm 72!!!!
