Anybody got an ETA on the new Airfix one, then?

As Lee says - could be anytime

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Venerable Matchbox or the newer Xtrakit?

I'm biased but I like the Matchbox/Revell kit. It's basic but reasonably accurately shaped, just not detailed very much and suffers from the 'trenches' somewhat.

I know The Wooksta will disagree with me  ;D but modelling is a personal thing of course.

They are the same kit !!!! - Revell ran a fresh run for Hannants to sell in their Xtrakit range.

Do they suffer the same flaws?

Yup, but it's still quite a nice kit

And the only game in town if you want to build a 1/72 night fighter  Meteor (or a long spanned PR one of course........  ;))

The Wooksta!

Unless you fork out for the PJ resin one - IF you can find it.  I managed to get one on ebay a while back.

The Matchbox/Xtrakit one is reasonably accurate, just an absolute swine to build.  Utterly loathe it.

Hehe, I knew you'd say something like that Lee.  ;D

It is a pain to assemble, yes, and for no good reason either. Matchbox seemed to go out of their way to make it over-complex, all that business with the cockpit upper deck for s start. What was wrong with making it part of each fuselage side?

The two different cockpit canopies have different fittings on the rear deck (one hinges, one slides) and the slide rails (NF.14?) are recessed, so you can't just stick 'em on afterwards. Could still have been done better though: the top edge of the fuselage sides should have had a reinforcing lip to stop it from warping inwards, and/or a bulkhead in the middle.

Yes, that's right, the NF14 is the only two seat Meteor with a sliding canopy (apart from the PR19 of course.... ;D) the others hinge to the right like a T7.

Slight veer from topic, I had the old Airfix Hawker Seahawk when i were a lad and have bought the new Hobbyboss kit instead as i wanted to do things properly this time around... Now ive noticed a serious difference in the overall length ?!

Which one is closer to the true scale ? (Obviously the hobbyboss one blows the airfix one out of the water for detail)

;)
