My Secret Santa sent me a Monogram RB-66. This is the old Monogram odd scale kit (1/83). So obviously, the first thing will be to scalearama it into 1/72. So I spent a few minutes (at least) trying to decide what to do. The adventure begins. But Photobucket is acting flakey today so no photos.   I'll update the status once I can access my photos again.

Hey photobucket is back up. Here we go.

This is what I'm starting with.

And here we go with the initial assembly and surgery. Yes that is a MAD tail added (from an old 1/144 P-3). And it now has a T-tail as well.

Next step.  Adding a keel.  I suppose you can see where this is headed.

And some sheet styrene strips to reshape the lower fuselage.

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc250/esveum/100_6233.jpg[/img]]

And now some putty to fill in the lower fuselage.

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc250/esveum/100_6234.jpg[/img]]

Then some sanding. Isn't PSR just the most fun you can have!!

But it is starting to look good.

Oh, yes, can't forget the upper side. And the engines now go above the wings.

Unfortunately, there is no telling how long before the next update.  I had to pack up everything (absolutely everything) in my hobby room and move it downstairs.  The wife decided after the holidays that this would be a good time to have the carpets removed from all 3 upstairs rooms and new wood floors installed.  Now, everything from all 3 rooms (my hobby room, her sewing room, and the guest bedroom) is stacked in the downstairs living room.  The flooring crew started this morning and hopefully by the weekend, the floors will be done and then I have to move everything back upstairs.

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

There are no good kits, bad kits or grail kits, just kitbash fodder.

Now that's a damned nice idea!

Looks all set to be yet another Ed Masterpiece!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

That planing hull just looks right on the B-66.  Looks kinda like a Convair project.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

This looks like it'll be another fantastic build, Ed! The engine placement reminds me of a Beriev flying boat.

Captain Canada

Geez....if I would have known you could do that with it....I would have kept it for myself !

Love the whole thing. The hull, the overwing jets, and the t-tail ! Briliant !

I'll try to get some pics this weekend.  I have finally in the last couple weeks gotten back to work on this.  I finished the PSR and primer.  It now has the first coat of paint.  Hope to finish painting tonight or tomorrow.
