FINISHED.

I had some time and finished up over the weekend.  Took some photos today in the late afternoon light.
Story:

The Saunders Roe Pelican MR.2.  Developed for the anti-submarine mission.  The Pelican was Saunders Roe's last big success.  It was flown by the RAF, RCAF, RAAF and the West German Marineflieger.  First flown in 1954, Pelicans were still flying missions through the Cold War and finally in the mid-80's, the last Australian Pelicans were retired. As well as their anti-sub missions the Pelicans were involved in numerous search and rescue operations.  They also flew fisheries patrol and on numerous occasions flew emergency disaster relief missions where their freedom from fixed runways allowed them direct access to many coastal area.

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

This is what I love about your builds, Ed. You can't really tell where you're going until the masterpiece is revealed. What did you do to the wings besides the floats? They look different.

The only thing I did to the wings was move the engines above the wing and add the floats to the wingtip.  I had to trim the wingtips to fit the floats, but only just enough to fit.

I think that the reason the Saro Pelican lasted as long as it did in R A F service was that they were flown from Lough Neagh, Loch Ness and Rutland Water  whenever possible. The fresh water was so much less corrosive than salt.

The R A F 40th anniversary flypast in 1958 had as its highlight an arrowhead of Princesses, led by a V of Puffin fighters and followed by a Diamond 9 of Pelicans. Coastal Command at their finest.

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?
