I've always been amused by the blurb on the box - "One of Britain's best ground attack fighters" After all I've read about it I'm convinced that if it actually had been employed that way it might have made a damned good one!

Was the Swift ever considered as a ground attack fighter?

AFAIK its main use was as a tactical PR aircraft, as the FR5, and it was very good at that too.

I never realised the Swift was quite so, well, "rotund" might be the best word to use to describe it.

Dead right, difficult to believe that a Swift took the world air speed record from the svelte Hunter back in 1953, but it did.
