The Africa GB starts Friday 25th Feb 2011, moderatered by Moritz(aka ChernayaAkula)

The rules:

1. The Africa GB runs from 25th of February till 29th of May. An extension may be granted (clocks run differently in Africa).
UPDATE: Extension has been grated. Wednesday, 15th of June is the new deadline.

2. Any What-If subject with an African background is appropriate. For some examples see the list at the bottom of this post. The scope is really wide on this one.

3. Any type of model is allowed. That includes aircraft, land vehicles, ships, figures, dioramas.... Profiles and stand-alone stories are very welcome as well.

4. Model must be more or less unstarted. A painted cockpit or some assembled wings, but not much more than that. Accessories like custom-printed decals may have been finished before the GB timeframe. Profiles must be unstarted well.
If you have finished a build or profile with an African setting before the GB, by all means post it in the inspirational thread. If you have a finished story, please post a link to it (maybe post a short abstract).

5 a. lost
5 b. broken

6. Like the Okavango River vanishes in the Okavango Delta, Rule 6 mysteriously vanished.

7. Post your finished builds in the appropriate threads. Models: 4 pics max. Please include a link to your in-progress thread. Post praise for a build in the appropriate in-progress thread.

8. There will be separate votes to determine the best model, profile and backstory.

9. Post questions regarding the GB in this thread. The list of rules will be amended if necessary. Decisions by the moderator on eligibility, timeframe or rules are final.

10. Have fun!

General whatifmodeler.com-Rules of the Road regarding etiquette, politics & religion still apply. This also includes racism, which might be an item or issue given the GB theme and Africa's history. I know you all know this (and wouldn't post anything in that direction), but I just wanted this to be very clear.

Regarding Rule 2.

This list is by no means complete or exclusive. It's merely food for thought. If you can think of other builds with an African background, go right ahead!
Some examples of what would be eligible:

- South African F-16/Lightning/Mi-24.... Kenyan Gripen/MiG-21/Leopard 1... Rhodesian A-10/OV-10/Harrier...Cote d'Ivoirean J-10... Libyan or Moroccan Rafale..... you get the idea...
- Imperial Ethiopian Air Force Dewoitine D.520/Spitfire/Hawker Hunter.... Songhai Empire Albatros D.V.... Carthagian MiG-21.... Pharaonic Egypt Spitfire/Type 22 frigate (with eye above the ram bow)
- Portuguese A-10s over Mozambique, British Sabres over Kenya, German Fokkers over Deutsch-Ostafrika....
- Warsaw Pact and NATO fighting out a war in an African setting
- Gekko's Lightnings over Burkina Faso story
- create your own African country
- what would Bongoswana's airline look like? Or it's railway company?
- improvised aircraft, armour, whathaveyou (mix Fishbed forward fuselage with Mirage 5 rear fuselage and wings and stick some Congolese roundels on it or Centurion turrets on T-55 hulls operated by Nigeria)
- build something from Larry Bond's "Vortex"
- pirate-busting in Somalia
- whiffed COIN aircraft
- technicals/gun trucks
- whiffed transport in UN colours
- British vs. French in Africa (instead of America)
- more CIA aircraft in Congo or Biafra
- UN in Congo Crisis (2000s instead of 1960s): Swedish Gripens instead of Tunnans, Iranian F-4s instead of Sabres, Indian Su-30 instead of Canberras
- USN TPS F-4s (for example) could take part if the backstory is set in Africa. The backstory would have to be a bit more elaborate in that case.
- wrecked piece of equipment. Build something that hasn't been used in ages and weather the heck out of it

EDIT:
Modified May 26: New deadline (June 15) has been added.
