The Wooksta!

I was bidding on an Aeroclub Spitfire contraprop (max bid £2 - with the postage it would have cost a fiver which is a bit steep).  Lost the auction - it went for £10.50 in the end.

then there's this one................extracting the.............

I might be wrong, but many moons ago when I bought that kit as a kid, it was moulded in silver plastic.  Not that light blue/grey plastic shown.  I've bought another later boxing of the kit in the last couple of years which is in this light blue/grey plastic.

The apparent color of the plastic could be down to the bag diffusing the color as the photo was taken. But It wouldn't surprise me if its a later issue kit dressed up to look like an older issue

That's just ridiculous! It's even MORE ridiculous when one of the pics shows the orginal price, £1.35!!!!  :o
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

So its a reissue as the original price would have been abour 2/6 IIRC - just demonstrating Kitt isn't the only oldy here.

Ok so according to the blurb its a VERY accuate build ... but still...

seems to me that that site is aimed at professionals who either get the movie company or advertising agency to "buy" the kit for them (with outlandish paypackets) or they're rich OTT sci-fi fans who make JMNs & rivet-counters seem like very mild normals :-\

I once quoted for an ad agency -- delivery of finished model in 4 days after acceptance of my quote -- I quoted $50 an hour for a 6hr job = $300 ------ winning quote was paid $5,000 ..... imagine what the client ended up being charged !!!
you may as well all give up -- the truth is much stranger than fiction.

And shipping is EXTRA at that price? Ye gods, he's really pushing his luck!  :banghead:

In the end its still just a normal build of a normal kit... I dont get it... :/

Obviously we are in the wrong game.  The paintjob isn't really all that good IMO and many here and elsewhere within the modelling community could do better.   "hundreds of hours"?  What was he doing?  Making the plasticard from scratch?   I suspect he'll find some Trekkie with more money than sense though.

I note he says the colours were matched '.....using the Pantone System' as if Pantone was some holy grail of colours.

Perhaps he's never heard of RGB or FS595?

There is a system for matching computer monitor colours to the Pantone system.  I am unaware of any similar system being available for RGB or FS.   It ensures that what you're looking at on your computer monitor is in fact the colour you think it should be, rather than the approximation that the computer normally makes it.  If the computer makers and the computer OS designers could extract their digits and actually come to some sort of agreement and create a standard for displaying colours, you wouldn't need such a system as the Pantone one but they haven't.   :banghead:

Its not the holy grail, but certainly the bible for color matching in my branch of the print trade :)
