Airfix Angel Interceptor, crappy snap-together version with crappy "stickers" instead of decals? £39.00 to you sir.... not.

Put "Angel Interceptor" into ebay and this is the only old one sandwiched amongst a dozen new red ones at about £7 each including postage.

'Hard to find'? Who's he kidding?

Obviously doesn't keep in touch with the real modelling world! <sigh>

Fourteen quid for a Bell X-1 in 1/144th scale????!!!! I'd expect the B-29 with it for not much more than that!

i love browsing evil bay and old kit traders stands at model shows just to look at the prices ... still if there werent folks willing to pay the sums toted im sure these would be a tad more realistic and affordable to all !

my late father used to take pleasure in chopping up his stockpiles of old Frog etc. kits to make project models, his favourites being the Canberra PR.7, Javelin and Scimitar as base kits, was great seeing the faces of fellow branch members when he would bring them along to meetings

i completely agree with his reasoning, it shouldnt matter anyway to us on here, models are for building (eventually) and not things to be kept for possible speculative value and profit, personally id rather give a kit away (or for a nominal sum or swop) to be built by someone else than have it languish in my stockpile for decades !

hmm wheres my hacksaw ...

I have a degree of sympathy with the historically-minded collectors who are, after all, preserving the history of our hobby, and given the option of a recent, disposable boxing, I tend to stay away from really old and pristine boxings even if I can afford them. I wouldn't, for instance, buy and build an unpoened Airfix blister pack edition of something I could get in a plain box (in case you're wondering, the thing with the blister packs is that their "unopened" status can't faked like that of boxes can be with new tape/stickers).

I have much less sympathy with the pure speculators who come a cropper when an old kit is re-released, although it has to be said I'm a bit hypocritical about this too, since I have no compunction about exploiting that market when I have something to sell at a suitably inflated price.

So, how much would you guess a 1/48th Hercules engine conversion set for a Lancaster should cost eh?

Dunno what figure you were thinking of, but I bet it wasn't £177............. :o :o :o

I'm happily building the original black boxings of the Heller Spitfire LF.XVIe, even though it's currently available.  This is mainly due to the facts that a: Heller mucked about with the tooling and added some really stupid attachment lugs in the cockpit and b: more importantly, the black plastic current issues tend to be horribly warped.  I managed to salvage one that I would otherwise have binned with a resin tail and wing, converting it into a hybrid airframe.  The black boxings (and indeed the Heller/Humbrol phototop boxings) have none of these flaws and canny use of ebay means I don't have to pay more than £7 (the current RRP) for any of them.

I've got one of those too, but I'm darned if it's going on ebay! That price is riduculous.  :banghead:
