Am I the only one who thinks Reserve prices are a steaming pile of crap?...

No.  You are not alone.  On the rare occurrences I sell stuff on evil-bay I just start it at the minimum I am willing to accept.  That way it only takes 1 bid to make me happy.  Anything else is a bonus.

Exactly what I do, don't see the point of Reserve prices, can understand it in a "real" auction where you can't advertise your minimum price, but on-line ? Or am I missing something ?

Am I the only one who thinks Reserve prices are a steaming pile of crap? If you won't accept anything less than XYZ for your item, why don't you just set that as the minimum bid? Far more straightforward that way...

BTW, right now evilBay has only one Otaki C-5 listed for $200 starting bid, and the Anigrand (opened and barely started) for $115. Are they in ripoff country or am I just excessively cheapass?

You're spot on mate!! I spotted a Revell rebox on the bay of E at $249.99 starting bid AND $68.50 postage (to UK) :o :o :o. With 8 hours to go there are (perhaps unsurprisingly) no bids!!. I never touch any auction with a reserve price. Why can't the seller just be honest (as you say) and put a minimum bid?.I'm lucky enough to have 2 C-5A  kits ( one of them an Otaki original) and, I paid £2.50 for one  (yes, that's right - £2.50!! It was at a car boot sale!!) & £27 plus change for the other.

The sad thing is, some people WILL pay these OTT prices AND, the kit will never even be built!!

Allan

ps - one of the C-5s is being built as a R R Trent engined RAF version. I can just imagine the screams & howls & gnashing of teeth from the JMNs bemoaning the "waste of an almost unobtainable kit"!

 JMN bait.As you can see from the date on the photo, the project kind of stalled!! It is now back on my workbench after lingering in the heap of shame!!!! The R R Trent engines are salvaged from a wrecked A380 model. Apart from a problem with the wings, the kit goes together very well. No real need for winglets but, seems just about everybody and his dog has them nowadays so, what the hell!!. I'll start a proper W I P thread soon. Haven't yet decided on a camouflage scheme. Won't be that boring all grey though!!

Trent repower--why not? I'm writing one that's been repowered with 125K# uprated GE90's and had external tanks (thinking C-130-style location but with B-52A-F 3000-gallon tanks) and KC-10/RAF-style wingtip-mounted probe-and-drogue tanker gear fitted... not as a true "dedicated" tanker, but for having some capacity to "drag" fighter escort.

You know in your heart of hearts that you want to do it in the "Brown Bomber" scheme.

Okay ....so nowhere near the Galaxy-tic scale of the previous posts, but I've been watching the 1/72 Freightdog Models Resin Cast TSR-2 Fighter Model Kit Conversion Set that somebody has been selling on E-bay. Over on Freightdog's (Colin is it?) own site it sells for £12 and is still in stock. On Ebay it eventually went for £17.25 + £3.20 postage .......WHY  :banghead:
Oh to be whiffing again :-(

Because the buyer is a total prat maybe?

And yes, Mr. Freightdog is Colin.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model
