I'm planning a stash reduction and I've been on eBay to get some prices. I've got a Revell 1/200 Boeing SST the twin kit. It was second hand when I bought it, but I never paid over £50 for it. The built kits go for hundreds of pounds. (Now that's an idea, build one and keep the other!)

Just found this on ebay. And they want £3.50 P&P  :banghead:

Last year I bought a Revell Sänger spaceplane kit for €50. A bit steep, I thought at the time (but the kit is long OOP and unlikely to be reissued). There is one on eBay atm for €150 so suddenly mine looks like a bargain...

I'm caught in a really serious moral conundrum. I know where to get some Airfix 1/24 Mosquitos, and I know what they're selling for....and I hate that kind of crass profit-driven s++t. BUT.... :banghead:....that's a lot of useful cash.

if you can do it and turn a reasonable over to make it worth you wile,  have a go, if you make far more than you think is right, give some of it to a good cause.  Or just use it to go tonto on the stash!

Buy low and sell high is the foundation of our entire economy. If you were a trader, you'd be doing it all the time, and if you wern't you wouldn't be a trader for long. I have no moral dilemma buying kits cheap and selling them for a profit: if I'm happy and the buyer's happy, who's been hurt?

I think Librarian is worried about the problem of price gauging.  He's worried that he may be on the slippery slope to moral oblivion to becoming a person who, in his view lives on immoral earnings from ripping people off.   Yes, Librarian, such people do exist but they are rare, thankfully.  The market decides whether the price you charge is reasonable.  Our discussion here is part of the market process.  We are surveying it and saying, "Not on your Nellie!" to some of the more ridiculous (in our opinion) prices being charged.

Either you'll get a purchaser or you won't.  If you don't, then you need to reduce your price!   There is only one way to find out, though and that is to hang a price in public view and see who responds.   Make it reasonable but don't short change yourself.  You really need to cover your costs PLUS about 10-20% to be worthwhile to you IMHO.

Thanks for all the advice. I need to grow up a bit and join the real world. It's funny but I've always felt kind of embarressed making money out of someone...my wife's the opposite, as are most of my family. She said she wants me to buy them for her and she'll sell them ;D. She's terrified I'll win the lottery and disappear off to somewhere...set up a school, hospital etc.

Exactly, you may have access to stock that no one else has access to at a very cheap price. No harm in passing excess or all of that stock on at a profit, as long as it is at a reasonable price or no one will buy it. For example just look at some of the items above.

Far cheaper to buy a non Berlin nose Ju-88G-6 and then buy a Berlin nose for it.

I agree with Rick' but would also say don't under sell your goods. Set a price you consider reasonable. If it doesn't sell, drop it. EBay don't charge for re-lists now (or haven't charged me for ages anyway).
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
