Bristol set up its Helicopter Department after the Allied invasion of Europe in 1944, when engineers from the Airborne Forces Experimental Establishment at Beaulieu became available. The AFEE had been working on the development of helicopter designs under helicopter pioneer Raoul Hafner, but the success of Horsa and Hamilcar gliders during Operation Overlord led to helicopter research being given a priority at AFEE.

As the War in Europe dragged into 1946 due to the unexpected success of Hitlers's V Weapons increased priority was given to helicopter development. Taking many design cues from the Blenheim the Bristol Bullet backed  a mean punch with 4 x 0.50 machine guns and 4x 20 mm cannon as well as 8 x RP

Heh - nice one.

I like the idea planes turned into helos: I've got a Skyvan and possibly a Dornier Do-28 earmarked for such at somepoint. I also think the Horsa would be good for an early one....
