Well guys I think I'll call it here, I don't think a further 9 hours is going to make a difference :)

It looks like the Jet P-47 wins!

I'd like to say that if there was no XP-72, bubble topped (X)P-47J would have been my choice.

As escort fighters became all the rage at the closing months of real-life WWII, may I suggest that you incorporate the wet wings of the P-47N into your Thunderbolts?
To the individual soldiers, *everything* is a frontal assault!

Razorback P-72. Bubble-tops are so boring.  ;D

I was going to use the P-47N as the base for the XP-72 and the Jet powered Thunderbolt and perhaps a late D or M for the H and J. So GET OUT OF MY MIND!!!!!

Well here's the first step, cutting up and modding the line art before I redraw everything. I'm undecided on where the guns will go, will they stay in the wings? Will the go in the nose as shown? Or will they be put in like on the Saber? I'll probably make up my mind closer to when I actually have to tackle the guns.

But for now here's where I'm going with the jet P-47, btw I'm going with solution 3 :)

Well, the nice thing about that one is you can use an F-84 for a lot of the parts. And I would go with the nose-mounted guns instead of the wing guns -- save the wings for fuel. It'll need the space.

Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part...

I have both an old built up Hasegawa 1/72 P-47 and a Platz 1/144 P-47 kit (with two planes) so I'm following this with GREAT interest.

If you're going to put the guns on the nose, I would keep the barrel ends well behind the intake, to avoid getting gun gases in the engine.

PR19_Kit

If you put the guns in the nose what will all the movie makers use for their usual 'stock shot' of almost any WWII fighter shooting at the bad guys? No matter the aircraft type they ALWAYS use that same shot, and nothing could be more distinctive than those 4 tapered barrels......
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I've revised the gun positions to follow solution 4. Now the question is to tank

or not to tank

I think this nose profile looks better too :)

Stage 2: Now that I'm happy with the layout of the aircraft (finally, I've revised it 2 or 3 times since I laste posted) I can move from cutting up line art to vectoring. I use the free program Inkscape to produce my vector line art. Being a vector I can scale it to whatever size I want without it pixelating. Here's today's progress, something must be said for drawing the simpler WWII planes after the crazy that was the Hind and the Hokum (still to do, eyish!). What's left to do is the remainder of the rivets :)

More to come soon :)

I can see the rivets on the nose already Great start!  This is such a cool design
