What shall I make with the C-119's wings and tail booms?

IRBM Transporter
Airborne Radar Picket
Attack Aircraft
Parasitic Aircraft Launcher
Other

I have recently acquired an Italeri C-119 for the fuselage and am stumped for what to do with the wings and tail booms so I thought I'd try and do a poll and see what people thought.

Option 1: IRBM Transporter - scratchbuild a cockpit forward/above the wings and have the missile suspended between the booms (the missile should already be fairly aerodynamic).

Option 2: Airborne Radar Picket - part of an airborne DEW Line with the antenna again suspended between the booms. Not dissimilar to a fixed-wing Sikorsky HR2S-1W - http://www.aviastar.org/helicopters_eng/sik_s-56-aew.php

Option 3: Attack Aircraft - I have another C-119 build using a 1/48th P-38 cockpit to create a Fairchild XR-11 equivalent so this will have to be a little different. I have an E-2, TBF, F-89 or Ju-188 fuselages as potential donors.

Option 4: Parasitic Aircraft Launcher - central E-2 fuselage toting a nuclear-armed F-84F, Navaho or similar?

Option 5: Other - ?????

Thanks for your time.

Interesting ideas SSB.  You could also consider a very early UAV.  Small recce pod in between the booms?  Or one I've seen done to a P-38 - drone made of one fuselage with an extra wing added.  Could do that twice if you can find appropriate donor wings for the second machine and have two types of markings.

How about a twin long range escort fighter, like a P-82 twin-mustang?  Cockpit on one boom.

Use a helo fuselage:

1/32nd Bo-105 to make an observation aircraft that's a bit like Edgely Optica meets Cessna O-2.

1/32nd Hueycobra front end, to make an COIN aircraft remeniscent of an OV-10 Bronco.

I like your option 4. Maybe you can use Rutan's White Knight for inspiration.

Ah, the ultimate kit plane! I did think about it but would like to try something original (ish) for this build.

Interesting ideas so far, thanks guys. Lots to ponder!

I'd vote for Option 3, using the Ju 188 fuselage!   Tricycle landing gear with forward landing gear just aft of cockpit, shoulder-mounted wings, bomb bay under wing spar,...

Maybe a turret in the back of the fuselage pod (although it might have a too limited field of view). Maybe remotely-controlled turrets over and under the fuselage à la Ar 240?

That said, the IRBM hauler as described in Option 1 would also be pretty darn cool!

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

a variation on this would be interesting which a couple of the  options would fulfil

I also immediately thought of Flight of the Phoenix.

I would love to do a XC-120 but the fuselage is nothing like that of the C-119. Last year, I bought a carp fishing scoop which, overturned, would act as the fuselage.  While the shape wasn't bad, the proportions were all wrong. Now it's a pencil holder!

Then do not carp about it or someone will put you in your plaice

Still not made a decision about the booms but I know what I'm doing with the fuselage........ a space shuttle!!! Pair of Javelin wings, some nozzles, some paint..... bob's your auntie.  :drink:

On a Packet fuselage? Oh my, that's going to look something else! What fin will you use?
