I've been browsing the forum for a few days now and thought it was time i should post something, I'm new to the what if concept but i've bought a couple of Bill Gunston books to give me a start.

Right onto the model, I bought a wall paper table from focus at the weekend to make into a large diorama featuring a hanger, aprons and fitting working lights where possible on the base. I wanted to create a semi plausable what if, so i decided to make a dark and unknown branch of Bae called Pegasus based at Woodford, Stockport. The idea is that Pegasus is a test and development company used by Bae for new technology and designs, aircraft are sourced by making airframes going for scrap "disapear". This is done as aircraft are being scrapped certain airframes will be taken from the line up for "fire training" and there would be no trace left of these aircraft.

Below is a list of models i intend to build for the diorama once the base is finished. I should have the base finished within a week hopefully.

Pegasus Development aircraft

Single Seat Jaguar AAW (Advanced Aerodynamic Wing)
TSR2 GR.4A
Bucaneer PR.2B
Canberra K.8
Canberra PR.9
Gazelle AH.6
Nimrod R1
Victor K.7
Chinook HC.2
Bucaneer GR.3A (tornado update)
Harrier T.12 Testbed
2 x Harrier test beds
4 x Lightnings
Rae Sea King
Vulcan R1
Tempest ( 1/200 757 modified with bumps and aerials)
2 seat jaguar
E-2 with no AEW capability

Below is the un-edited google maps image of the Pegasus building at woodford aerodrome.

Ideas and comments welcome.

Thanks Weaver, i did scale the smaller hanger down so it'd look vaguely like my diorama.

Awesome idea....!!! Welcome aboard.....you got a pretty broad spectrum of a/c there.....would you by any chance, any chance at all,be including any prototype/experimental helicopter gunships.....maybe a Puma,Lynx or an experiment with the captured A109 from 1982......helo's with guns n rockets.....gets my vote....

Thanks for the reply, i have considered a few gun ships but i don't really have any ideas on what to do/ base them on. However i have started the gazelle ah.6 which features an upgraded engine exhaust ( scaled down ah.64 design ) New 4 blade rotor, wheeled tail sitter undercarriage and a reduced size longbow radar. I have thought of a couple of lynx for base security and making an elint chinook, so we'll see how they go!

Cracking idea, a Whiff Museum even!  ;D

But the above quote is probably what happened for real anyway!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

More than likely but at least this way they are preserved in some way or form  ;) This means lots of Hunters, Meteors, Bucaneers, Harriers, Jaguars and Tornados

Scout/gunship Gazelle sounds awesome.....stub wings n some form of armoured cockpit/nose gun for a Puma or Lynx.....that be good.... ;D......maybe a Lynx gunship/escort....?

I'm thinking an updated Lynx with a fan tail similar to the dauphin, BERP rotors and possibly a lengthened and widened fuselage with the nose of an aw159. Also had an idea for a voice controlled gazelle testbed and a similar lynx.

Welcome to the madhouse! I like your plan, nice and ambitious. Should keep you occupied for a while.

There were real-world plans for a gunship based on the Lynx. The Helicopter Museum has some models along with a modified Lynx or two.

You could also use the Westland Westminster. One or two prototypes flew before the project was cancelled.

Army of One

A RN ASW BN Defender....big radar and a good few torpedoes.....gotta be a few different a/c over the years that could be experimental COIN a/c....how about any of the Pucara's that were captured and brought back....I think there were 6 or 7 and some in flying condition....there was one on the civil register I think......now that as a Hind/Hip killer configured in the mid 80's.......oh.....now there's an idea.......but,oh....shooting down Hinds...?? I must go and flog myself with a bit of rusty barbed wire for the very thought.......

Forgot i'd created this  :o but i've made some progress and have photos

The base is till under construction but already has all the buildings in place and most of the tarmac so it's mainly just fitting the lights at the moment. Also got the base its first aircraft aswell this morning, a corgi hunter trainer in full grey/green wrap around for a bargian fiver!  ;D
I'll post pics up when they've finished uploading.
