Hi everyone,

Yes, we're aware of it - apologies in advance, we're working on it.  :banghead:

Hi!

I notice that some illustrations have been posted in the CGI Profiles section today.
Has the upload folder problem been corrected?

Chuck, many are posting offsite and linking to them on here.  I think that doesn't affect the 'upload folder' issue.

Nope the upload folder holds images that have been loaded onto the forum, this is the folder that has exceeded capacity. Many members now use the preferred method of linking images from an on-line picture hosting site which do not use this sites resources.

Any pictures I take will be in my FaceBook page, probably on the IPMS Stafford page, Biggles page or just my page.

As I understand it, the problem is caused when you directly upload a pic to this site, i.e. the image is stored on What If's server. If you upload it to a third party storage site like Photobucket then hotlink it here, then it isn't a problem.

Either get your own website (really cheap nowadays, with virtually no limits to what you can upload) or go with one of the various pic sharing sites (photobucket being the most prominent) which may or may not limit the size of the pic uploaded.  Me, I've got my own website (have had it for about 10 years).

Any thoughts on a 'Dead Photo Links' thread for those who do hotlink to Photobucket, et al?

It's because the photo that is being linked has either been moved to another directory in Photobucket, or it has been deleted from Photobucket.

In terms of space saving, would a limit on the number of PMs stored help?

PMs are usually small; I've got 150 in my inbox, at 1 KB each (a generous estimate) that's 150 Kb (which is peanuts).

Thanks Weav. Any thoughts on a 'Dead Photo Links' thread for those who do hotlink to Photobucket, et al?

Don't see the point of a specific thread, to be honest. I would have thought it more effective to put a post in the thread with the dead links asking the poster if it's possible to restore them, followed up with a PM if they don't respond in a few days.

Well...,
What is the definitive answer?
Will more storage be available in this site in the near future?
Should we use external storage for pics from now on?
any other posibility?

Thanks,
Carlos.
