Was looking at a Mystere IVA the other day and was struck by how it was suggestive of a baby Buccaneer from some angles (especially around the cockpit area and in it's general rotundness), so......

Needs a date with Milliput and some finishing touches but I'm quite pleased with how this one is turning out. Nose is a Harrier GR.5 (I liked the notch in the nose hence SR.1), tail is from a MiG-19. Thinking of doing it in anti-flash white. Is it too optimistic to plan for post-atomic bomb-damage assessment?  ;D

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

Very neat!

Actually, it reminds me of the McDonnell XF-88 ( although that was a twin engined machine). I have 2 of the old Lindberg XF-88 kits which will be getting "whiffed" in due course!! ;D
Loves JMNs but could never eat a whole one!!

it is so neat that you can add just a few changes and make something completely different. I really like your additions

Neat idea, and looks good!

Makes me think of a swept-wing Skyhawk - probably due to the air intakes. You could imagine it as something the RAF might buy, with a single Spey engine, to replace their Hunters, in a world where the Harrier never existed.

Thanks guys! What I had in mind for a backstory was essentially an immediate predecessor to the Buccaneer S.1 and a nice transition type from the Seahawk and the likes to the Buccs, Scimitars etc. Taking a page from the Mystere donor, the engine will be a R-R Tay on the prototypes, replaced with an Avon on the production models. That way I know the engine will definatley fit the airframe!

I was hoping for more of a Bucc look with the tail but the MiG-19 one was the closest I have. Hadn't considered RAF but there's no reason they can't get a fatter, area-ruled Spey-engined variant a bit down the line.  ;)

There won't be a whole lot of progress for at least 3 weeks I'm afraid as I've agreed to help a couple of friends renovate a house!  :o

Wow- interesting concept.  It's going to look so different from a Mystere when done.

I'd stick with a developed Tay, because one of the many problems with the ill-starred Swift was that the fuselage was originally designed around the chunkier Nene and was bit too roomy for the Avon.

I had considered the retention of the Tay, if for no other reason than very little else has it! Perhaps developed variants could have a Conway to justify the chunky airframe?
