Well if I can find a suitable model I may well have a dash at this. Quite fancy getting an old Airfix HMS Nelson and changing it so the turret arangement is more orthodox. 2 forward one aft (see I know all the terms  ;D)

Ah, but do you which is which?   ;)

From an early age my dad (ex WWII RN) was determined I used the right terms whenever we saw any ships/boats of any kind. Mum got upset about some of them as well

Started on my corrected HMS Nelson. Making it up as I go  ;D
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I've got a couple of ideas for this one, but all my models are stashed in Havana, and my current digs aren't conducive to any kind of craft work, what with assorted cats, dogs and children who can't keep their hands to themselves.  I've got six months, though, so maybe I'll be able to contribute something.  I won't throw my hat in until things firm up here.

i didnt plan on entering this gb since i cant do any major kit bashing at the mo.............had a great idea for a battle carrier based on the tirpitz but ive put that on the back burner for a while...............ships are quite alien to me anyway....only ever done one ship kit before  ;D...............but just reread the rules and realised i have the perfect thing since it allows rw projects that were cancelled or didnt enter service...................so im doing the Graf Zeppelin  ;D......won some stuff on ebay a few weeks ago, went to pick it up and the guy had a table full of kits ready to put on, so i had a nosey thro and made him an offer for a few.............got the GZ for 4 quid!....never even knew that revell had made a kit of it

I've got an ancient Airfix Suffolk 1/600, that could become  HMS Cumberland in the late  1950's as a trials ship. It might possibly  be a  missile test vessel in place of HMS Girdle Ness. I've got the kit, I think I probably have the skill, now I need to  find the time. Even if it's not finished in time, I'll post it some day...........probably............ perhaps.......I hope.........

Well you could combine the Airfix Suffolk with the Airfix Tiger to create Cumberland by using the masts radar and guns which would be pretty much as Cumberland was fitted. To Whiff it you could use bits from a Devonshire to test Sea Slug, Leander to test Sea Cat and its directors or even Victorious to test the Type 984 Radar and the AA guns.

This was what I was thinking about..........if I ever find the time!  I think  I've got an old Tiger I built MANY years ago still in my parent's attic  so I thought of robbing parts from that and improvising .

Not sure if I'll be able to enter, but I pulled out a bunch of kits from the stash tonight to play with and see what I might come up with.

Kits I'm playing with:

1/700 Trumpeter Frunze
1/700 Trumpeter Slava
1/720 Italeri Kuznetsov

Looking at building up the Frunze into a ship I call the October Revolution.  It's based on a profile I saw on Shipbucket, with Slava SS-N-12 launchers abreast the normal Kirov class launchers on the foredeck.  The Kuznetsov was only brought out so I can take a look at the phased array radar antenna on the island (Top Plate, I think?) to see how large they were for use on board the October Revolution (as well as the Orel, which is what the remnants of the Slava will become).

The Slava, as mentioned above, will become the Orel, first of a new class of air defense cruisers, similar in conception to the USN's Ticonderoga class.  It'd only have like 8 SS-N-22's or SS-N-25's, with the rest of the armament being various long range SAM's slaved to the Top Plate (though may shrink it a bit since it'd be built after the Baku and Kuznetsov class).  Unlike the Tico's, the VLS would be single use as SAM launchers (USSR/Russian VLS aren't as versatile as the MK.41 VLS).

Also pulled out a 1/700 Minsk that might get the Kuznetsov's island and vice-versa (although cut down a bit, since the Kiev class' island is freaking huge).  Might turn the Kuznetsov into the Riga (early name for him) with simplified electronics and a modified weapons suite.  The Minsk, meanwhile, might become my Samsonov amphibious assault gunship (with some leftover turrets from some battleship on the foredeck).
