Holy Grail Kits

Oh, thought of a couple more:

Many moons ago a Canadian company called "Sealand Imports" sold some incredibly good model kits under their own name. They were a Boeing 737-200 and a McD-D DC-9-30, both were in 1/100 scale, and both had the most incredible decal sheets I have ever seen. I still have part of the Air Canada DC-9 sheet, with a slew of lettering and numbering to make any in-service ACA DC-9 with correct registration numbers and so forth. I seem to recall that the 737 was available as either a CP Air example and/or a Nordair one.

I'd also like to get my hands on any of the VEB Plasticart 1/100 scale airliner kits. I have a Tu-154B and a Yak-40, but there is also an An-24, Tu-104, Tu-114, Tu-124, Tu-134, Il-14, Il-18 and Il-62M. Not to mention the Western airliners they did, like a DC-8, Caravelle, B727 and Trident. Trouble is, what I used to be able to pick up for pennies at swap meets are now going for better than $100 on Ebay.

Apparently they also did a Baade-152 but I've never seen that one.

Edit: Poking around I think that the Sealand kits were made by Doyusha, and some of the Plasticart kits were resold as "Playfix" kits in the UK (the Il-62M is listed as an "International Airliner")

I have a Streem 1/72 Su-24 Fencer that took a fair bit of looking around to put my hands on. I'd been after one for ages.

Beyond that, I'm not really chasing after any particular "Holy Grail" kits.

I'm just hoping for better renditions of subjects that currently exist in kit form:

A decent 1/72 Aero 45 or 145 would be good.
Amodel's kit is a bear to get together and has a major canopy fit problem. I've never gotten one finished to my satisfaction. Until the likes of RS or AZ get to tooling one, a decent rendition will still be on my "Holy Grail" list.

Ditto for a 1/72 SIAI Marchetti SF.260.
It exists in resin from both Cunar and Planet. I can't speak for the Cunar kit, but the Planet one is very dear for what you get.

I'd heard some rumor a year or so ago that a 1/72 styrene one was in the planning by one of the MPM banners though nothing more since then. If there was truth to it, I wish they'd pull their finger out and get on with it.

I know there is at least one resin rendition of it out there by someone, but if Airfix can give us the less used Shorts version in Styrene that sells well enough to reissue, I hardly see what's holding up a styrene rendition of the much more widely used Embraer version.

Outside of aircraft..

A 1/72 styrene rendition of a Shilka anti aircraft vehicle.
The resin one done by a Polish outfit is beyond what I'm willing to pay anytime I've seen it and I've never seen one of them that didn't have multiple casting flaws.

It begars belief that such a significant and widely used piece of Cold War armor has evaded smaller scale styrene to this point.

The single most recurring item on this list seems to be the Otaki 1/144 C-5. Sadly for you lot I have one, and it didn't cost me a bean! 

A modelling buddy who's a hard-ver 1/48 modeller had it, partly built, and gave it to me many years ago. Over the years I've un-done his previous 'work' (the word 'work' here is used in its widest POSSIBLE sense....) and it's ready to re-build now. But as it's been over 15 yrs since I got it I can wait a while longer.

The major, and I do mean MAJOR, item on my HG list would be the 1/72 SARO Princess that's been mentioned on here many times before. It may cost an arm and a leg, but I have two of each and a fine collection of walking sticks.....

For years I wanted an EAP that was better than the Pegasus offering. Now I've got one in very nice resin!

I've got most of my Holy Grail kits bar the ever present 1/144 C-5 Galaxy, maybe we should pressure Revell to make one to go with the C-17? I could have bought one at a club sale years ago but got beaten to it 

I would like to have the A-12 Avenger and the Fairchild T-46 in 1/72 scale but cost is a big barrier!

1/144 Revell Shuttle Launch Complex (either with or without shuttle)

A hobbyshop I frequent in Calgary had one on the shelf for the longest time, but since the last couple of visits to there, I noticed it hasn't been there. He might have sold it but when I asked about it when it was there, all he said was 'make me an offer' with a sly grin on his face.

I'd certainly go along with the comments here re the Otaki C-5 Galaxy. I'm fortunate enough to have 2 of these kits and, before you ask, they are NOT FOR SALE !!   One of them will feature here at some point as a R R Trent engined RAF Galaxy C-1. The Anigrand kits are way out of my affordability range so I cannot really consider them. It's a pity Revell chose 1/144 for the C-17. I really don't like that tiddler scale but, it's all we have! I'm glad they have the good sense to produce their forthcoming A400 M in a proper scale!
A C-141 would be nice. I have one of the old Aurora kits (1/110 scale I think). No, it isn't for sale either!! It will be built at some point ( cue howls & wails & gnashing of teeth from collectors!! )

I've got three C-5 kits, one is a 1/480 (Academy I think), another is a 1/144 Revell, and the last one is a 1/72 Blackbird Models (ex-ID Models)

I've a 1/72 C-17 too----
